Zgemma single tuner - good to use on a motorised system

    Hi All,

I have a single satellite feed from a motorised dish, so was wondering if the zgemma single satellite tuner box will be able to drive a disqec technomate motor between 28.2east, 16 east, 13 east and 0.8west fairly well

if it easy to setup and store the satellite positions and possible use a step command to move the dish in gradual steps into order to find the best signal at these satellite positions

just wanted some guidance before l buy the zgemma single tuner box. I know how to set this up on sly but wanted to know how easy it was to setup on other satellites

    many thanks

Should be fine but be aware on some rare occasions they have resulted in problems moving the motor possibly due to Air Digital and how they manufactured the boards to send out voltage levels, its easily fixed by using a low power 'Green' LNB

What would you recommend if l was to chose another zgemma box or possibly a dreambox as l don't really want to mess around with the LNB

The dreambox are good reliable boxes for motorised systems from what l have read

      Cheers

why not look at another branded receiver altogether such as say a Vu Zero, TM Nano M3, Edision OS Mini, Xtrend 7500 all around the same sort of price bracket but have a superior build quality.

The Clone Dreambox days are well behind us all now and the Tech they use is extremely outdated on the 800/SE models

thats very true, l will take a look into these but have no idea what lm looking for apart from something which is relatively easy to setup, capable of moving a motorised dish, HDMI and scart....anything else is a bonus, whether they are running kodi.

however would be nice if they auto-update the channel frequencies - so any box that can do that, l would lean towards that functionality.
But would definately need a scart or RCA phonos for my video sender

I did like those boxes mentioned but need one with RCA phonos or scart for my video sender :-)

the Vu+ zero looks the business and if it comes with the AV cable, then l am thinking of going for this one.....
hopefully setting up the usals or Diseqc

The Edision OS Mini has A/V output adaptor on the rear, as for updating Channel lists you can either use the ABM feature or something like Catseye channel lists or even Vhannibals which the latter has a plugin which auto updates

i believe the Vu+ zero also has the AV jack at the rear too....

So, if you had a choice, between these two.......which would you go for...

As they are both roughly the same price as well.

After Reading the reviews - decided to go with the Edision mini os - it's packed with features

thanks again, you have been a great help :-)

I think the Edision OS mini is slightly cheaper than the Vu Zero the only difference being is the Zero can use the Blackhole image (Not a Great Loss), Yet the Edision has Both Inbuilt Wi-Fi and Bluetooth a lot more handier IMHO.

                  Good Luck with Everything

                      @ digicon

when l get the receiver and setup for motorised can l use Disqec instead of usals?

so l can find the satellites and store them as l wish

also which folder would the channel table be located in, so l can use one of the above files which is mentioned
assuming that l can use, FileZilla to connect to the box

                      thanks again

You can use either or even a combination of the 2 if you so wish thats the one thing i like about Linux Enigma2 it has so many possibilities, The channel list data is all kept in /etc/enigma2 folder.

As for channel lists you can either FTP over Catseye channel lists manually using Dreambox edit, for pure laziness reasons i just use Vhannibals marvellous Channel list Plugin this lets you choose any List from single satellite up to full motorised and the plugin auto updates the list when Vhannibals updates his channel list.

                          Thanks again for the info
so l can't just use FileZilla and copy catseye channel list to the etc/enigma2 folder or has to be Dreambox edit software

Better to use the Dreambox Edit software as it will place all files in the correct directorys

If l use catseye channel table to get me started but then decide to use Vhannibals plugin would this simply overwrite it or need to delete the old channel table first then install the plugin for Vhannibals

thanks again for helping me out - just getting all the files and programs together ready for tomorrow

reason for loading the channel table is that how would l know the dish has moved without having a channel table loaded....least l know which channels to look for when the dish moves
