    DM800 - ghetto fan mod = simple & silent

    Stage 1

    Satge 2

with hindsight I probably should have done less work and stuck with Stage 1 but the lid didn't want to go on easily! doh The fan was more 'sturdily attached' then too
Summary (should take you less than an hour)
    remove lid
    remove hdd tray
    remove modem
    remove esata connection
    remove backplate
    remove tuner
unplug and unscrew the incredibly annoying fan (2 screws)
remove the 2 pin connection from said annoying fan
hacksaw the frame off your new fan and remove red and black wires from 3 pin plug - use the 2 pin one
the pc blanking plate screws in using 1 hole from where esata was and holds the fan using 2 x fan mounting screws
    reassemble.....
    silent heaven

if you where to leave the small fan in there
which spins at 12 volts which is making it noisy

cut the 2 wires red and black then get an old usb cable join it to the 2 wires plug it in to the internal usb socket
it will now spin at 5 volts and be silent
that way you can still fit a internal hard drive

The fan on my clone is starting to get noisy so i was thinking of trying this solution i. e graphite powder and oil on the fan.
