DM800 S problems - please look if you have any ideas;-)

Hi can anyone shed some light to this problem ? I?m asking on behalf of a friend who has a DM800 Sat version of this basically the box does not do the below:

    Does Not Boot
    No Display
    No Red LED
    No Picture
    Two Ethernet lights on
    Can hear fan running

I think its ~~~~ed, anything he could try before sending it back to supplier? Notrhing happens when connected to dreamup either!

    Thanks

i had this exact problem. connect the box to tyou null modem cable, open dreamup connect the power. disconnect the power and connect. keep doing this untill dreamup picks it up. then flash using this method http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...x-800hd-74927/

this worked for me. the lcd wasnt working but the box was. i knew this by the led on the fron flashing on bootup

      let me know

Try another power supply. sometimes when they break they deliver 3-5 volts. Sometimes enough to boot, but you get no picture.
It may be that the lcd is broken. Check that the cord is properly seated in the box. It may not past the "Power On Self Test" It test the viltal features before the booting. Poststop is when the Bootline is straight under b during booting. If you have an lcd that works. The picture on the tv blinks also once when it post stop before boot. But I do not know if lcd qualify as vitally such as tuner will.

You can try to disconnect the LCD. If you get post stop errors due to the tuner it vill boot if you remov it.
So maybe you can unplug it for it to boot.

Try without a tuner in this sometimes lets it boot, if so the mainboard is knackered, as there is a connector shorting the box out.

I picked his DM800 up and since I've been back I've tried various things that have been suggested and still have had no success - one thing I notice is that when I plug the cable into the box and looking very closely at the LCD unit I see a quick light flash as if its gona turn on but no, sometime it's shown sometimes not. strange eh...!

Dream up - Using a null cable, ive tried taking the power lead in and out quite a few times but d'up does not detect the unit at all can hear the fan running tho - tried switching different com ports in the progie too.

Have held the power button pressed in while switching the unit no joy.

                  Opened the unit:

re-seated the lcd cable couldn't see anything obvious within the unit so put casing back on. Put power cable in still no sign of the unit powering up still the same as before.
One thing I didn't do is remove the tuner didn't think about it tbh until I came to post and saw s'mans suggestion! It's late and I'm not gona do it now;-/ I'll remove the tuner moro and see if powers up that way.

                  Any other suggestions welcome
