ok if you are thinking it was me then sorry unfortunately it isnt me if anything i am going more stronger then ever with the dm8000 coming soon. I think if the police has too much of the free time then they will be going for the paid server sites first before me, luckly i dont do servers and never have done. so yes its not me and i live in yorkshire and ive not heard of any arrests linked to dreamboxes.

i think this would be a bit more intresting topic to discuss instead

Dream Multimedia closed by the police
                  Info by alibecks.

40 Custom Officers and Police Officers broke in Dream Multimedia's HQ
                  offices in L?nen (Germany).
The warrant search was extended to private houses of CEOs and share
                  holders (T*m Ziem*nn, K*y Ziem*nn, J?r*en Leu*ring, Di*k Gl*nz and
                  the turkish Asl*n).

The break-in is apparently motivated to a Custom malicious wrong
declaration of embedded modems on DreamBox's STB. At present
private belongings of the owners of Dream Multimedia have been
confiscated. Rumors say that Custom is claiming 6 years of importing
DreamBox STB without paying import duties due to the embedded modem.

Presumably searches would be extended to all companies that have been
importing DreamBox Set-Top-Boxes in the next coming months for duties
claims in Germany and almost all EU countries as it is now proven that the
non-working modem was installed for tax scams only.

Up to now all the stock is under Custom’s block and no goods will be officially
released. It seems that border inspection on DreamBox Set-Top-Boxes and
the well known clones of DreamBox will be strongly enlarged limiting the
import of this items in the European territory.

Informers are reporting that this has to be considered the final Knock-Out
to the most famous audiovisual company worldwide and that it all started
from provider’s pressure on stopping Dream Multimedia from producing this
STB becoming more and more popular for the ground breaking card-sharing
                  phenomenon.

is it illegal to sell DM clones ?

is it illegal to sell DM sat version ?

story smells of bullshit, if they wanted to stop the fake DM why not go direct to the source, China ..

That's story's bull aswell and was circulated pre christmas it was a take on the story that Dream where working with police and customs to clamp down on clone sellers. The clone sellers re wrote it and released the above version obviously for their own ends

There are two main aspects that may be illegal.

The main one is "Passing Off" which is illegal. This is when a fake/clone product purports to be an original.

The second is any intellectual copyright that may be held by the genuine manufacturer in terms of software design, hardware design, logos and trademarks.

Many "clones" I have seen do pass themselves off as original dreamboxes and are thus illegal. Indeed, unscrupulous clone sellers often do not make it clear that the device they are selling is a clone and are criminally complicit with the manufacturers/distributors in the offence of "passing off".

Given that most clones use the Dreambox name and logo and their manual is a clone of the genuine article, there would be no doubt in court that many clones are passing themselves off. It is unlikely any effective prosection could be made against the manufacturer in the far east so prosecutions would be made against the seller/agent in the UK. Such prosecutions would be brought by Trading Standards or Dreambox themselves,
