strange grass-hopper noise from tuner

Hi all , have just moved from cable to 1m motorised dish , with dm800 clone (rev k tuner) and most HD channels are "tune failed" and tuner makes what can only be described as grass-hopper noises ,
I am aware lots of clone users have HD issues , my question is have any of you heard the noise before , and will changing capacitor rectify it , Or is it a case of new L3 tuner needed ,
btw i have a 20db booster , as got a pretty long cable run (prob 25m +)
if anybody has any advise , i would be very grateful .

First thing I would do is to point the motor at 28.2E and then bypass the motor by inserting the cable directly to the LNB to see if the noise is feedback from the motor or if the HD channels are better.

I recently removed my motor and put my dish fixed on 28.2E and the signal went from 49% when connected to my motor, to 96% when connected directly to the LNB..

Worth a try before shelling out on new tuners

20db in-line amp is no good makes it worse..! I would say new L3 tuner and correct in-line amp and you'll be fine..

Also the tuner noise is prob the fan touching underneath the tuner..

Open up your dm800 and check the fan under the tuner. I would unscrew the fan and then screw it back again making sure that nothing is touching it inside the box. Check your configuration for th tuner and if you can follow Westkill guide for configurimg the box. I would also send the Catseys channel listings so that you can test the channels. I would seriously refrain from doing anything like changing capacitors or changing tuners to your box until you have exhausted all the configuration issues.

Thanks for reply`s guys , i know for sure it aint catching on the fan , as i removed the fan (due to noise) and am using a usb cooling pad ,

Bubbles , what do you mean by "correct in-line amp"
Braindead , i dont see what going straight to lnb will achieve , if it improves , how will i drive the motor ?
Curious , thanks , i will go with catseyes and westkills method and see if any improvement , I am not sure configuration would cause this issue but willing to try so thanks for suggestion

btw ,i see on another forum that members have clubbed together to get a good price for a batch of dm800 (?136 each), i wondered if this would be worthwhile for L3 tuners only , say ten tuners will probably ship for same price as 2 and get discount for buying 10 , just a thought if any members have hd issues

is it the tuner making the noise ?
sound to me like the noise of a faulty hard drive, if you have one fitted maybe remove it and see

I think a correct in-line amp is now being quoted as a 10dB (taken from another forum)

No mate . definately tuner noise , as soon as i hear it after changing to a hd channel i know "tune failed" is about to pop up

btw , some hd work fine , luxe hd for example

I got my dm800 on Wednesday and I am still figuring it all out. I am getting the odd 'tuner failed' message which I think is due to an incoorect channel setting. These messages remind of what we used to get in the past such as 'service not found'.

go to tuner settings, if your on simple in config mode change

"send diseqc only on satellite change" to NO

that helped sort most of my tune failed
