what english channels are available?

Excuse my ignorance but i know next to nothing about satellite tv. Was doing the virgin media thing for the past however long i was doing it, been looking at the dreambox d800hd with motorised dish. what i really want to know is what english speaking channels can i expect and is there anything else i am going to need apart from the dish, receiver and cables?
