    Dummies Guide?

I've never owned or used a Linux reciever before. However, I'm expecting one tomorrow, and I want to get familiar with the software etc before I install tomorrow.

From what I understand, it comes preinstaled with: 'Bootloader 75 Gemini 4.60, SIM version 2.01'. Is this OK? Do I need to update? Does a new version exist?

Am I able to use streaming to PC with the above software? I'm hearing about 'blackhole' is that better?

    Kindest Regards,

Is it the Dm800 clone your getting ? Yes you can stream ok with the installed image. I would change it to Nabilosat blackhole, which is available in the downloads section. Make sure it's the one for clones, assuming your is a clone
If and when you flash your new image, do it via your web browser. It takes about two minutes as opposed to an hour using Dreamup.

    THE TRUTH
    The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

It must be a clone; for the price I paid, it has to be.

I'm downloading the images now How does this install business work? I take it web interface is enabled as standard? Do I need to enable anything?

I've seen other posts mention Linux commands etc

And before anyone accuses me of being an idiot, I did say I'm after a dummies guide.

        If you have never used a dreambox before and you are hoping to get to grips with a dm800 then you may have your hands full. This manual might help you with your box;

OK. I got it working. Needless to say, it's actually incredibly simple.

I'm not sure what software actually came installed on it, but it's a doddle. For example, I was under the impression I would need to do a lot of tweaking for the bouquet lists to work. In fact, however, all I had to do was install DreamBoxEdit, change my FTP to match the IP of the box, selecting 'v3' and it did the rest. I need the 'WebControl', as I can then manage schedules when I'm away, and guess what, it was already there, I had to simply 'enable'. As for CCCam, it must have also been preinstalled. I simply moved my CCcam.cfg across and it automatically read and connects.

Despite having a clone and hearing the horror stories of overheating, picture breakup and constant locking: I'm not having any problems. My box is actually incredibly cool. Plus, ALL HD channels work without a problem and SNR ranges from ~55%-70%.

I don't have a 2.5" drive but I do have a 3.5" and a USB adaptor. Installing that was easy too. Just plugged it in, 'initialised' from the blue menu, and then used the one-click 'syslink'. It now records fine also. I'm loving the FTP file transfer. However, only problem is the speed. I'm getting ~5.5MB/s and when the file is around ~12GB it can take a while. But it's worth it. Unlike my old cable box, it records all the audio streams. So AC3 and MPEG.

Glad to hear your up and running. i must admit that i have only changed over to a dm500s in the last few weeks, i was also expecting it to be a lot harder than it was. Its down to the members of this forum that make things a lot easier for those that are prepared to do a bit of reading.

thanks to all those that take the time to answer posts, and share their knowledge. @manx
