Hi from the UK - Anyone got their DreamBox working with a WDTV Live ?

    Hi all

Just got my Dreambox 800 (clone) and have managed to get it working (mostly by luck) with my Sky card - whohoo!

My next project is to be able to playback recorded movies from the internal drive using my WDTV Live HD player - upstairs and far away from the DM.

However, my WDTV cannot see the DM via Media Server nor Network Shares - I'm not surprised as I know the boxes aren't configured to do it !

Has anyone had experience of this ? I did see a post on another forum from about 4 months ago where it was casually mentioned that the person could see the dm files from the WDTV.

As I'm a newbie could someone explain with simple words - don't really understand CIFS/SAMBA.

Am able to connect to DM via laptop through web interface but don't know how to do ftp or access/edit/send config files

    Any assistance greatly appreciated

    Dave

Have got it working - a quick guide for anyone interested

    (1) ensure db is working as part of your network - eg you can log into your router and see it's ip address

    (2) ensure wdtv is working as part of your network - again that you can see it in your router attached devices list

    (3) get samba installed and working on your db

    (4) download DCC if you haven't already. use ftp commander to tfr samba config file "smb" to your pc (in etc/samba directory)

    (5) load the config file into Wordpad and amend the line workgroup <your network name here> ie so it is the same as the wdtv network name

    (6) ftp it back to the samba directory

    (7) reboot the db

    (8) switch on the wdtv, go the the settings/network page, switch off auto-login

    (9) Go to video . networkshare page.

If all is well you should get the username / password page - just press ok and hopefully you're in

1 step forward, 2 steps back

have <ahem> gone for a trial of some naughty channels - but they're not showing - they show ok on old sky box.

Haven't put boxkey into CCCam but was able to view other Sky channels (via NewCS?)
