a push in the right direction im on the roof ..help

hey fellas new to sat ,got my stuff during week have my dish up and a diseqc 1.2 motor which is attached to reciever dm800pvr but cant seem to drive the motor and led on motor is not lighting . .,hope this is correct i moved dish to face south motor is at zero does that mean south is always top of the arc?also motor instructions say dish should be set at 30 degree elevation , have done that. went to www.dishpointer this info
    Satellite: 5.0W Atlantic Bird 3 | Syracuse 3B
    Elevation: 29.1?
    Azimuth (true): 177.7?
    Azimuth (magn.): 182.4?
so then i moved elevation on motor to 29.1 but dish seems to be looking virtually straight up. where am i going wrong , dm800 is new to me as well is there something on menu which will power up motor,

thanks i have just run another cable to motor it is working now but still no sats ,does it sound right to add 30 degree elevation on dish and then 29.1 degree elevation to motor does that sound right

dont worry about it looking almost vertical mate , mine is pretty much vertical and all sats found great on it ,
you aint never gonna get it spot on with instructions , geta mate (not the Mrs) inside and fine movements til signal is peaked

Forget the markings on the dish And motor, get your dish near vertical, just slightly off. Last time we used markings our dish looked like rain bowl

set dish up to south , then tell dm800 to move to 1w (or your most southern direction for your location) then peak signal to 1w sat (fine tune with mate), you don`t want to be gettin a signal at due south , you want it at 1w , then dm800 will be synched with dish , not sure that makes sense , hope so !!!

back on the job , they recommend 5w atlantic bird for where i am ,yesterday i began to believe russia had shot her down not sure my opinion has changed much ..getting sporadic stations when stations drive motor like hotbird ,lucky im a patient man but we all have our breaking point...oh and to add to the pressure there is an active wasp nest just above dish in eve of house ,,i hate ~~~~ing wasps ..

For driving the dish use the satfinder this will drive the motor and fine tune using the positioner to fine tune the sats then store. I am currently setting up another motorized dish m8 just stick with it patience is a virtue . and once set up correctly drive back to zero and mark the pole and brackets with a marker

just a question about the markings on motors are they degrees it drives too because when i drive to 5w atlantic bird it shows at about a 2 possibly 3 on motor should it not be 5 for 5 west, which may explain why im hit and miss, also i moved dish with a sat finder attached between lmb and reciever got a good signal ,tightened everything put cables back in to motor and to reciever but no signal showed up on screen of tv, do i have to change frequency or symbol rate or something ,why would that be?, and finaly how many sats should i pick up thats alot of questions sorry lads

have you configured the tuner , you need to enter tuner config (should say nothin connected , use right left arrows on remote ), select simple mode , and enter long + lat , have you done that ?

if your motor is not moving correctly , check connections , if it is moving and you are gettin some sats on the arc , usually means pole/mount isn`t 100% plumb vertical (in all directions) check with spirit level all the way around the pole ,

tell us what sats you can get + signal strength , and channel info on them ,
