Issue found with L3 Tuner and certain DM800 clone mainboard.

Spent most of the day yesterday messing around with 5 dm800's, mainly to swap over rev J \ K tuners with the L3 tuner.
What I noticed was that on some of the 800's i changed, the boxes would reboot soon after the boot screen. At first I thought the tuners were not sitting correctly, so I double checked and tried again and same problem.
So i thought maybe could be a sim issue and tried 69\70\2.01, same problem. So then i thought could be image problem, tried gemini, dreamelite and PLI, same problem. By now I'm thinking ok i got some faulty L3 tuners, So I pulled out my main 800 clone that I had put a L3 tuner in back in May and tested it and tried the tuners, they all boot and work fine. ( more about that at the end).
I then went back tried the L3's in the boxes and same thing, constant reboot, so I put the rev J tuner in the boxes and they boot fine, no problem. Weighing up everything I could only come to the conclusion that the mainboard was the problem. So I opend up all 5 boxes and noted all 5 said Revision J on the mainboard. 3 of the 5 boxes would keep rebooting and 2 were fine with the L3. I did note however that the 2 that booted fine had fan pins in different locations to the 3 that didnt. The 2 that booted fine had the fan pin just above the heat sink, where as the 3 I had problems with had the pins by the internal usb slot. I have stuck two photos up of the boards. Hope this is of help. L3GOOD being the board that worked with it.

BTW. this L3 tuner rumour that it fixes the Discovery HD glitch seems to be untrue !! Tried at least 6 different houses with various boxes all with the same result, including changing the echo number.

    Thanks

A suggestion.... try fitting decoupling capacitors across the fan wires... 100N or 100uf 16V . See if that cures the problem..

I disconnect the fans as default as they tend to sound like helicopters after a week or so, and use laptop coolers instead.

No problem mate, I did some more testing this morning tweaking the lnb and still no joy (using promax tv explorer). From reading various forums and other responses, this L3 tuner fix is definitely vaporware with the odd exception. That and the different mainboard variations I would definitely suggest people save their money.

Noticed no difference at all tbh. All HD chans with the REV J\K seem to be stable except the for the 12324.00 V frequency

Right the L3 tuner has about 5 revisions latest revisions have major faults, and main board has now changed from rev J in cloned to rev L.. the faulty L3 tuners that are not working with in-line amp are from 6/2010 to mid 7/2010 this is direct from ukdreamshop guy so for those buying clones be careful and buy from a reliable source that has tested them with the in-line amp to make sure no problems with hd, i'e the guy that told me this info..!!

Anyway of finding out from the tuner when they were manufactured. I see no markings or dates on the board other than rev L3

                            Had the same problem.

I have the same problem on my clone, so I bought a Tuner REV L3, because I have read in here that this would help on my freezing. So I installed the REV L3 on my clone 800, but it rebooted and rebooted no matter what I did. Ok, it must have been a defect tuner i got, so I bought another new tuner Rev L3, but this one had the same problem. So now I have my old tuner installed and still have a lot of freezing and I have 2 tuner Rev L3 for sale, if anyone wants to buy them.
