    800 clone recording problem

I have fitted an internal hard drive to a 800s clone amd the drive appears to be recognised. I got the box to format the drive with ext3 file system and every thing looks OK.
The problem is that when I set it to record, nothing happens.
Its as if it does not try to make the recording. A timer event just sits there saying "waiting" but never records. Manual recording deos not occur either, no messages.

Anybody know what I need to change?

have you mapped the hdd (diferant to initialize/format), if not maybe that will solve , somewhere within menu is an option to map devices ,

      THanks for the reply
Looks like it could be something like that.
I already have a 800s that although it looks the same (uses same HD skin) it has a different image and that worked perfectly with a fresly inserted WD drive. Curiously the working box reports the hard drive has IDE(primary master) but it is SATA. The default path I think (new to 800s though flashed and used plenty of 500s) is Dev/hda1.
On the new machine the Disk is reported as ATA and its default path that seems to be mounted is Dev/sda1.
Note the difference hda1 on working box sda1 on non working.

I suppose the simpliest solution would be to load the image from the recording box to the new box.
Any ideas on reading image off or sourcing of a working clone image, loading it back is deatiled above and altough it looks more complex than dreamup on the 500s I think I have got my head around it.
Idealy id like not to have to change the image.

      Thanks

You may nee to add a movie folder for it to record.

FTP into the 800 and navigate to /media/hdd/ and make a movie folder in there. Like this

        /media/hdd/movie

Right, done that and that has changed things.
Its now saying that it cant record because there is less than 100mb. Also when I press the video button that should bring up the recordings folder it says that it is 16mb of free space.
So it is seeing the location to record to but obviously cant see associate the HDD with it.
            Any other ideas?

            Thanks

Just found a thread on Eurocardsharing forum and it looks like it could be a hardware issue. It seems that its a known error to that supplier, anyone heard of this?

              Hi,

I'm having some trouble getting my DM800 to see any internal 2.5" sata drive that I install. I've tried two disks so far (both are working fine on other computers). When the box comes up there is nothing in /dev/ide or /dev/scsi, 'dmesg' doesn't make any reference to seeing a disk. There is no Hard-disk option in setup either. When I power the box on, I can hear a humming coming from the disk, which means there is power, but it doesn't spin up which suggests that nothing is even probing.

I've tried multiple images too, each one is the same. Currently running nabilosat.

Has anybody ever seen anything like this before? I've installed the disk as per the instructions, power and data cables are both in and secure.
              --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I do have an update. I tried with an external 2.5" usb disk, but the dreambox couldn't see it. I then tried with a usb flash disk, still no luck. I then plugged in a 3.5" external usb disk with its own power supply, and this *was* visible.

This is pointing to a power issue, the dreambox doesn't have enough power to spin-up the 2.5" disks, but it could view the one with its own power supply. Very annoying
              --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I mentioned the problem to my supplier who agreed that it was a power issue. He also said that he has seen this lots before and is going to swap the box for me.
              --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looks like the recording path is still with the dh hdd rather than the ext hdd

Found the issue now, its hardware related and looks to be some kind of short circuit. Found this in a thread from last year and its exactly the same thing but no one came up with any suggestion, so if anyone has cured this issue can they let me know.

                  Thanks

                  I have another strange problem

as soon as I insert a 320GB 2,5" seagate HDD
into the DM800 clone box it is not recognized anymore
                  by the Gemini 4.6 image
dangling outside of the box it works fine
I tried with rubber grommets etc.
the screws to hold the HDD in the DM800 create a short circuit

                  please provide some suggestions

                    All sorted now.
There are 6 or 7 pins beside the internal USB and when I put the hard disk in first time I had bent a couple and they were touching. Dont know what they are for but once they were apart on the disk refitted all was well.

                    Thanks

                      recording problings

From start of a Hdisk should be formatet with fat 32.
I can be done with EASEUS Patition Master 5.0.1. Home Edition, it wil solve the problems.

Thanks guys but it was a shorting error has I reported above. There are 6 or 7 pins just below the hard disk and I had pushed 2 together when installing the disk. This for some reason caused the hard disk to be recognised but not useable.

The best way to do it is format the hard drive with ext3 before installing drive.

dont format it fat 32 or ntfs these are for a windows environment ext3 is for linux boxes which dreams are.

it is well known that some images dont format some drives very well and can lead to the problems stated gemini being one of them.

i use gparted on my windows machine to format drives for dreams and have never had problems (google gparted).
