New Owner - Old Dreamer

New poster but been lurking for a while...

After many, many years with my trusty ?real? DM7020 and DM500, I took the plunge and entered the world of the clone Dreambox and acquired a DM800 (201 76a).
Having a soft spot for Nabilosat, one of the first things I did was flash Dreamelite 1.3.3D. The first thing I noticed was that, clone or not, the Dreambox was as responsive as ever

Anyway, I have an existing condition brought on by many years of close contact with my 2 offspring?s of Dream Multimedia, namely, a massive aversion to running images in FLASH. So I read the applicable posts and tried MeoBoot and Barry Allen. Oh what joy, hours of entertainment finding what parts of what images didn?t work (or indeed, if the image worked at all). I then read various things around the good old Internet about Barry Allen bombs!!! (I think I?ve come to the conclusion that this is probably a load of poo). Although I?m obviously familiar with the old ?bomb a Dreambox? trick from our friends at Gemini, I?ve never had to worry about it and was just sat here wondering if any of the early clone adopters could, firstly, confirm or deny the Barry Allen rumours and secondly, offer any advice on the best way to run images from USB.

I have got a clone dm800, not familiar with the meoboot but have managed to use Barry Allen fine with my internal hard drive. You need to install the oldest version of Barry Allen first and then gradually update it with later versions on the clone boxes.

I jumped in and stuck Barry Allen 5.1.34 on it as I understand that the latest versions of Barry Allen don't have the clone check embedded. I'm using a USB stick but have ordered one of those new fangled 2.5 sata things to heat up the inside.


To be honest BA seems to work fine, it?s just things like CAMs not available in OoZoon and I?ve seen missing plugins and strange behaviour in others. Will starting with an earlier version help or is it just compatibility issues with multiboot?

One thing I have been doing is using 201 76a patched images. I?ll try to use an original (not in FLASH), unless someone here tells me I?m an idiot and don?t do it.

One further question whilst I'm at it...

Can I use earlier images 76/75 etc or is that just daft?

I had similar problem with the Oozoon image and the Pli image, I think its the box rather than the BA. I found that the DreamElite and Nabilo Blackhole 12 worked perfectly on my clone dm800. My dm800 was a Sim 201 BL75 which I then upgraded to BL76, I have never bothered trying the older images and couldn't really see the point of trying the older image so cannot say if it causes any problems. I really liked Nabilo BH 12 but with that loaded in flash you couldn't load the newer CVS 016 images in BA so I have now loaded DreamElite BH133D in flash in case I fell like experimenting.
