Connectiong the dreambox to the internet!

    Hi,

i currently have a dreambox 800hd set up and connected to the internet via a powermedia wifi (this is what i use to pick up the signal from my router as ethernet cable was too much of a hassle), however sometimes when i turn the dreambox off from the plug and turn it back on i do not seem to pick up the signal off the internet and dont get channels such as skysports, would i be better off getting an e-thernet cable?

    Thanks

the channels dont work if i turn my dreambox off frm the power (complety off unplugged) and then when turned back on - the wifi dont seem to be picking up the router and only the freeview channels work.

In a nut shell you can not beat CAT5 cable wired from dreambox to router.

Use home plugs instead of wifi, never goes wrong with home plugs

CAT5 ethernet cable is the best solution. sometimes depending on what kind of router you are using you might have connectivity issues after powering on and off your dreambox. ethernet will be always connected so you will have no issue with connectivity. Wifi based devices tend to have this issue of not being able to pick-up any signal or wifi access point after powering off and on the device.

If there is a problem to cable to the box, you can use also the Power LAN adapters.

Well ive got a Openmedia dongle connected to my network and DM 500S, when internet is not active for a while, the dongle goes to sleep and have to turn power to dongle off/on and then the internet comes back to life.
Direct connection via ethernet cable is best, but not always a good idea as some may require a very long cable run.

You can do a single run of upto 100m using an ethernet cable.
you could run it along an outside wall if needed.

I live in Spain, I have been informed that I can install a dreambox via WIFI (hard wire not an option) and receive full sky package through internet (there is a charge for this as always in Spain). Is this the case or is the installer telling me porkies?
