Getting dreambox cooler to go into standby.
First of all get old scart lead, cut wires about 4" from plug.
Open scart plug and cut all wires except pin8+ and pin21-
Next cut usb plug of lappy cooler and expose red and black wires.
Join red wire to pin8+ and wrap with electrical tape.
Join black wire to pin21- and wrap with electrical tape.
You can solder if you want using tape is handy option.
Snap scart plug together and connect to dreambox.
Turn dreambox on and fan should spin.
Put dreambox on standby and fan should turn off.
If you find the fan is spining slowly, it's not getting enough voltage.
To solve this go to av settings on dreambox and change aspect ratio to 4:3 on (scart)
            Example: Aspect Ratio & status 4:3 = 9.5-12v, 16:9 = 5-8v.

            Cheers,

Hi guys don't have a dreambox cooler but a small fan sitting on top of dreambox, cheap and easy to do.
                  Keeps dreambox nice and cool.

First of all cheers bugsy for the guide, I recently lost a dm800hd probably due to overheating so I am a little paranoid with the new one, it came with the integral fan which is unbearably noisey. So I am going to dissconnect it this weekend, I can also fit the hdd whilest I have it open.

Any how I also have a twin fan via usb fitted on top of the 800, and have just bought a laptop cooler for the unit to sit on. Over the top maybe.

The question is best way to power it, do I use the second usb port on the back of the 800? or is it better to use your method via the scart socket?
                          Cheers Guys

i connected the scart to a cpu cooler, it worked, when in av settings, but i got it connected to tv via hdmi, so, when i restarted the fan did spin, then goes off once its loaded, no idea why, if i save av settings, the screen goes blank, so i got a 120mm pc fan, connected it to the usb connection, and its perfect, gives good air flow, and i cant hear it, its on the top of the box pushing air thru the air vents, dont care it not turning off in standby, i think the 120mm will be fine for a long while

Sorted. I have plugged the laptop cooler into the back of the ntl box, just didnt want to put to much load on the 800 plus I still have the spare USB port.

If I loose this box to overheating probs this time, It will be because the house has burnt down....
