Is it not easier to just get hold of a router that runs one of the larger variants of dd-wrt with openvpn already built in ?

Problem with Openvpn is its fairly processor cycle hungry so you really dont want to be running it on anything as underpowered as a dreambox, especially if your also using that dreambox for CS !

Using a router its relatively simple BUT you require an openvpn service that allows port redirection otherwise external clients wont be able to initiate connection. That generally means using an openvpn service that allocates you a static IP address.

Ive just loaded this on Debian Linux server and all working ok. My oscam server is also on debian so I used another old laptop just to test it out as I wasn't want to mess up my OSCAM server just yet.

Programmed as per the guide and the tunnel came up straight away,, but couldn't get the client routing from the openvpn server to my OSCAM server internally. I then changed the "dev tun" to "dev tap" on both server and client and it worked perfect.

If you use the dev tun it only sets up a tunnel between the client and the openvpn server and requires some serious routing on the openvpn server to route on the internal network to the oscam or cccam server. But, if you use the dev tap it sets the tunnel up as an Ethernet connection and allows you to route internally without doing anything.

I have now installed the openvpn on my OSCAM server and changed back to dev tun so the client can only get to the oscam server and nowhere else on my network,, and I have to say this works an absolute treat..

NEXT was trying to upload the SGTFlipFlop service file to the DM500 Darkstar_2 vpn image. It doesnt like it because the VPN image is on 284 and the flipflop is on 282. I just went into menu/ service searching / transponder edit / and changed the 284 to 282, ok and saved then rebooted.
In dreambox edit, I opened up the flipflop files, went to tools and clicked clear satellites, and then uploaded them to the DM500. Worked like a treat.

Just thought I'd drop this bit of information in to anyone wanting to try openvpn.

                Thanks to all

Ive got my box setup & working with openvpn. Am i correct in saying that if i flashed my box with a new image to try all i would need to do is save the ect/openvpn files & ftp them into the new image(if its got openvpn installed)
                      Thanks.

Dont know, does the VU blackhole image have the VPN plugin installed?? on the DM500 image you just press the yellow button then go to openVPM plugin.

Theres an easier way, get a Linksys router thats capable of running DDWRT mega version, flash the router.

Then subscribe to a VPN service, and configure the router so that the router itself does all of the VPN work. Anything that is then connected to this router will have a VPN connection.

This way it makes sure that the receiver doesnt get put under load and you can connect multiple devices to the router.

I have found it very complicated to set up vpn and hope that the guide will make it easy. The most difficult part is routing parameters.
