Hi. Can an expert please help. I brought a USB to RS232 null modem cable from Maplins to fix a problem with my friends receiver. I have been testing the cable out on my PC (Windows XP) to my TM5400 SUPER. I am trying to download latest softcam keys using DARKMAN TM loader 187. I am getting message NO AVAILABLE COM PORT. I have connected USB to my PC and the RS232 to the TM. When i go into DEVICE MANAGER it tells me that the USB - RS232 is COM11. On the TM loader i have selected port 11 but getting same messgage. Is there something else that i can do. Normally for my receiver i just use the USB for downloads and no problems. Regards.

Hi. Thanks to help fromTHIJS i have managed to get rid of the NO COM PORT AVAILABLE messages. This was done by going into DEVICE MANAGER and changing port number from 16 to 1. I have downloaded TMLOADER 1.8.8 and tried again but i am now getting message 'CONNECT YOUR RECEIVER AND TURN IT ON'. I have turned on my receiver but nothing happens. Any ideas please.Comment

i asume you selected the file that you want to tranfer already
i only used rs232 to rs232 before and when i turned on my tm
the file would start transfering after about 20seconds and you would see a % bar going up to 100 can you tell what model tm it is.
u might need a different loader if it's not a 1000/5000/6000/7000 series model
have a look here too http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...39/#post147846
or you might need this oneAttached FilesLast edited by thijs; 10 November, 2011, 19:36.Everything discussed on this forum is for experimental and educational purposes only. Use the information at your own risk.Comment

Hi Mikie. Thanks for that info. My question is why when you buy a brand new null modem cable do you need to mess about with the pins? My concern is that you start cutting wires and you get them wrong it may make it worse. I will look into it and see what i can find. These rs232 are not easy to open. Thanks once again for your info. There are 5 types of rs 232(null modem) cable, Straight through (thats the one you've got)
Without handshaking
with partial handshaking
with loopback handshaking
with full handshaking
You need to turn your one into one without handshaking.
if you cross 2 and 3 thats what it will be
regards Mikie.

Hi thijs. I have a TM5400 SUPER. I usually use USB for downloads no problems. I am trying to help a friend out who has a Clarke Tech 2100 receiver and needs an update but does not have USB. Also i was curiuos to know how an RS232 cable works as i have never used one before thats why i am trying it out on my TM5400. My PC does not have an RS232 socket to connect to the CT2100 thats why i bought an USB - RS232 cable. I looked in my TM5400 manual and it gives a layout of the RS232 pin layout but from what i can see does NOT show pins 2 and 3 as being crossed. So now i am a bit more confused. Is there a setting in the TM5400 that i need to check?? Regards.Comment

if you are trying it on the TM 5400 it should start loading on to it no problem once you have selected file and clicked connect al you should have to do then is turn on your tm if the lead is setup right and after a few seconds it should start loading if you use it on the ct you might need a ct loaderEverything discussed on this forum is for experimental and educational purposes only. Hi thijs. I tried it on the CT loader a number of times and still same problem. I have opened up the cable lead cover but i need a soldering iron to release pins 2 and 3 to cross them over. I will buy the iron tomorrow from the market. Having a look inside the cable layout it looks a bit tricky as the pins are close to each other. Are we sure that by crossing pins 2 and 3 it will work??
