    Technomate Linux v Non-Linux

    Hi,

I'm in the process of looking for a box and i've spent far too many hours reading the forum and deciding. I'm looking at spending around ?100 on a pvr box. I'm not too fused about HD but it would be a bonus.

I used to have a DM500c so i have previous experience workign with linux boxes but I'm now torn between a TM600 and the 5000 range of TM boxes.

I've noticed I can pick up a TM5400 for around the same price as a TM600. The difference being one is linux and the other is not.

Can anyone explain, apart from chainging the way the menus look, what else you can do with a linux box? And also which one you would go for?

All i really need is box that can record and allow me to use cccam.

    Thanks.

      Thanks for your reply.

I know it's been done 1000 times but would you care to suggest a box in the under ?120 price bracket?

I've read the other threads but most off them were started a while ago and there may be new boxes out now.

      Thanks.

If you want a cheap basic HD pvr, go for the Openbox S10. Basic but very easy to use and less than ?100

I second that nothing better than a DM800HD PRO at 110 quid in that price range.

Great stuff. Thanks for the reply guys.

I'm going to go with the DM800HD pro. Looks like I'm going to get it from UK dreamboxshop unless you know of any other reliable UK sources? Or reliable china sources?

                Thanks again for your replies.

Go for a reliable China seller and save yourself some cash. Yaoxin, Ananda, BCT are all reputable sellers.
I would say stretch to a DM800SE at 155 quid delivered all round better box than the 800HD PRO,
