with any satellite system motorised is the best way to go
so you get a better choice from many satellites. as for the
best everyone has there own personnel choice if you have
a hd ready tv you could think about a hd satellite receiver
and i would go for at least a 1mtr dish as someone new to
satellite you could think about the technomate models these
are very easy to set up and program to open some channels
for free viewing. i would go for a model with cam and card slots then in future you can in you want use these items to open even more chns the patch does'nt open, at this point the satellite with the most channels open is thor 1w and there are about 12 sports chns as part of the digi-tv package with lots of football that the patch opens for you, so take a look at the tm 5400 receiver or for hd look at the technomate 6000 models and always ask or look for the best price
for a full system and fitting if you cant or dont want to try and set it up yourself. if the dish has to be possitioned high you must be ok working up ladders with a heavy dish, first have a check at prices and take your time and think about it before you decide which way to go

Just to add mate make sure you dont buy a cam or any unofficial cards as at the moment many encryption changes are taking place and it would be a shame to lose your money but! Make sure you get a Technomate with a card and cam reader.

i would buy what satellite magazine, thats what i did.
its full of useful information, helps explain what you need, where to get it(Pretty cheap too), and has a list of satellite position's, channels etc..
then when you have your system, read the forum's and they'll help patch your reciever etc..
and like me, just ask, they helped me.
personally i went with a technomate receiver, they seem to have good support.

I purchased my motorised set up off ebay for about ?90. excluding reciever.
Mounted on a 1.8m scaffold pole set in fence post concrete in my back garden so you dont need to mount it high if you have a good view to south from your house without too many houses close by. No problem to set up either with the help and stickys found in the forums.
                Go for it !!

i would agree with benny/9 and get at least a 1m dish and motor, however i would personally go for a linux based reciever such as a dreambox or TM9101 (which also has a CI slot) just purely for the option of being able to join a cardshare in the future for maximum package options.

                    Hi all, newbie here too.

I should have checked this forum before ordering the dish... Anyway, got an Icecrypt 60cm dish with a monoblock LNB for Hotbird 13 & Astra 19 (the landlord doesn't allow anything bigger), but haven't decided on the receiver yet. Thinking about Technomate USB PVR version as I have a spare USB HDD. Any suggestions for a model with "good" support?

                    Cheers
