Hi all, I'm gonna buy myself a receiver, probably Technomate but I have a couple of questions.
I want to be able to record HDTV to external 1TB USB HDD. Should I get a linux system like the TM600 and if I do what is the advantage of a linux over the others and are all Technomate compatible with a monoblock lnb. Also, how user friendly are the linux systems.
Sorry if these are noob Q's, I'm new to satellite (I have a sagem freesat receiver atm)

The TM600 is SD only the HD range starts at the 5302 for the closed source receivers and the Linux HD receivers start at the TM-Single-OE.

Thanks for that. TM-Single-OE, I get the TM, and I assume the "single" means a single digit number but what does OE mean ?
Can anyone tell me whether linux systems have any major advantage over other systems.

The 'Single' means its a single tuner roughly retails for around ?160 the there is the TM-2T-OE which is a twin tuner for ?209 and the the TM-Twin another twin tuner but roughly the same size as Vu Duo, They all run the same hardware by the way.

Closed Source: you have to wait for normally a Patch from the team or person supporting that reciever, you cannot customise anything

Linux E2: many teams/person support these types of receivers and have a wide variety of images, Customisable almost to the point of working exactly the same as one UK official 28.2? east box, Loads of features,plugins etc... to choose from

Thanks for the helpful replies, I think I've found something that suits my needs, it's between the TM5402 HD and the TM 800 HD LINUX. Bearing in mind the advice digicon has given re the versatility of the linux based systems I will probably go in that direction unless there is further recommendations from anyone though I do have one further question. I've read that a lot of receivers will only allow the use of USB powered ext. HDD's and not externally powered HDD's. Can anyone tell me which of these applies top the TM 800 HD LINUX

My last bit of Advice please do not buy or even consider the TM800HD Linux receiver it's a dead duck and you would literally be throwing your money down the toilet if you purchase one of these, if your going for a Linux TM then start at the Base model TM-Single

I meant support wise now limited to non existent and it was left as buggy as hell, I would assume support will cease altogether, Even TM themselves admitted defeat when last year they offered the TM800 trade in offer for the newly released TM Twin i think that says it all.

Hi i had a Tm 500 super, EPG very poor and image runs on eminga 1 and also have TM800HD, also very poor, the best box i found was to be VU+dUO, easy to work with
