    Data Input - Softcam keys

Before I upload the latest Softcam.key file can anyone explain what actaually happens with existing keys that reside on the system?
Is the whole file over-written with the new input or are the individual keys added so that the file grows?

Hi. As far as i know keys get overwritten with new keys. Depending on which receiver you have you can copy current keys to USB before overwriting them if you wish .

    Regards.

Just a another query or two!

I purchased my system from a local supplier c/w s*y italia licence, no card - if i have a problem I have to contact the supplier.( can anyone explain how that works?)

If i load the latest Softcam file will the data effect the licence.

I have noticed that all channels that I can see are encrypted with videoguard (is this encryption specific to s*y?) and the softcam keys appear to be targeted at other encryptions - irdeto etc

      Thanks

s*y italia licence the guy has put a line in your box. we cant discuss *** but it isnt exclusive to uk tv as more and more broadcasters are choosing it. the softcam is for irdeto/cryptoworks/viaccess and the soft *** 90F, via 2.6/3.0 are buried in the patch, regards mdt

          Thanks for the info.

Apologies for being a bit numb but I if understand you correctly, loading the softcam data will not effect the line that the supplier has put in my box?

And I take it that the line that the supplier has put in the box is not official?

          Cheers

do these keys also overwrite anything in the 1.27 phantom patch?
or does the phantom patch not contain any keys?

Hi. Patches and keys are two different things. The patch may overwrite the keys but the softcams never overwrite the patches. Patches can contain keys as i know that the TM5400 had TNTSAT and CANALSAT keys built into the patch and not the keys menu. Receivers work in different ways so you have different patches. The golden years for patches was until 3 years ago . Nowadays not much is opened with patches and keys like before. Who knows what the future may hold. We live in hope

                  Regards.
