New 5402HD, problems, lost - please help

Hi DK people. I'm new here and new to sat TV, so I hope I'm keeping to forum etiquette. I'm in Edinburgh. I bought a TM 5402HD and two guys came today to install a dish - don't know the make, it's 80cm, non motor and has 3 LNBs. I've got BIG problems!
THe guys explained that they could only connect 1 LNB to the TM. To connect all 3 they'd need to run 3 cables from the roof and I'd need two more receivers - or I'd need a motorised dish. They never explained this to me before I bought the dish from them; but I'm hopeful we can come to an agreement about that. Not only this...but there's no sound from the receiver on an HDMI cable ; so I've had to use a SCART cable for now. It's either the receiver or the TV at fault. I've contacted the seller of the 5402 to explain this. I've no other HDMI devices to test ; I'll try to borrow something. Right now I'm using Astra 19.2E and nothing else. That's fine for me, I'm comfy with German as well as French and Spanish. (it's the tech stuff I'm thick at)
Where did I go so horribly wrong? And how do I get out of this without turning to drink? Buy a couple more cheap receivers?
Any advice most welcome. Thanks and regards to all.

    Hi Calum,

And welcome to DK did these guys ride in on there trusty steeds and ride out again with 10 gallon hats stuffed full of cash LOL i have heard some good ones in my time but they always make you laugh, In other words mate they where trying to rip you off big style.

if they had put an 80cm up and had a 3 LNB multi-arm attached then they should know you need a 3 way diseq switch connected, in other words all 3 lnb's have short fly lead cables going into a 3 way diseqc switch which in turn normally has 1 single output feed which goes from the switch to the back of your 5402, you then set the 5402 up in Diseqc mode and choose an input for each switch connection.

    Normally this would be

    No1. 13? east No.2 19? east No.3 28.2? east

This would be in putted into the 5402 as either ABC or 123 so you have access to all your 3 LNB's through 1 cable.

Personally i would get these cowboys back and sort it with a threat of trading standards for good measure.

    Good Luck

    Regards

A possible solution to your sound issues, go into menu, system settings, a/v output settings, and toggle between the three audio options in the digital audio section and see if any of them give you audio via the hdmi cable.

you don't need more receivers m8 you are being taken for a mug......you want a diseq switch to connect all three lnb's to, then to the box you can then use the box to switch between sats. No idea why it won't give sound from hdmi but most likely system settings or faulty port on tv or faulty hdmi lead or maybe just not pushed in properly......Have a read up on diseq switches and ask about them in particular somwone with more experience about multi lnb setups will give you more guidance but don't be shelling out any more money to those rouges

            Thanks.

Thanks to you all for the replies. Great ideas. Nice attitude too - once you'd stopped laughing/groaning (as I would've done), you all pitched in.

Just to clarify - the fact this dish is not motorised has no impact? So, from what you all say I should definitely be able to connect to all three LNBs from one box - once I get these guys to confirm a diseqc switch is in place, or add one if nec.

I'm working all weekend so won't get much time to look into this but bI'll keep on at this. Thanks again.

Hi. As already mentioned you dont need two more receivers but a 4 way diseqc switch. Before buying a switch make sure all 3 lnb's are working. You then need to decide which 3 satellites you would like to pick up. Connecting 3 lnb's to a disecq switch is quite simple.

              Regards.

The point of the DiSEqC switch is so that your dish doesn't have to be motorised. I use a DiSEqC switch myself for 19.2e & 28.2e (I used to have 13e as well for completeness but I never watched it). It's crazy that the bods installing your dish didn't know about DiSEqc switches.

Thay are simple to set up & only cost a few pounds. Although they are called switches, they look more like combiners/splitters.

                  Thanks to all

Thanks to everyone. I've got my volume working (thanks to Monsieur Digger). I've got a DiseqC switch on order - it'll take a few days to come, in which time I'll read the 5402 manual end to end. Then I'll hook up the diseqC switch to the receiver, set it for DiseqC mode and do those blind scans for a few hours to see what's out there.

I spoke to the installers...not a clue ("we're not familiar with the 5402 receiver") and not taking responsibility, but I hope I don't need them anymore thanks to your advice.

Have a glass guys, you deserve it. If I'm stuck I'll be back. There's a fair chance...but you got me going. Cheers.

this may(or may not) help mate this is for a 3 sat setup 13E,19.2E and 28.2E the lnbs in the dish picture are connected to the diseqc switch as indicated and then a single cable goes to the box. the measurements in the pic are ok for 1mt orbital dish at my location so will need adjusting for your dish but will give you an idea of whats needed.the screen shots are for the diseqc 1.0 setup as will be needed.
