Smart cards are used for lots of things and they are all blank when they are made.
Different ones have different memory, processors, speed, some have encryption built in at the hardware level.
It's like asking why do we have different makes of trucks.
Thanks M8,Its just that i have seen them on company sites along with cams and official cards etc and wondered what significance the funcards had with the receivers. Didnt know if it was for Cloning etc. Sorry if i shouldnt have mentioned it.
OK so you are talking about smart cards that are for sale at satellite websites and stuff.
They are not for cloning, you can't clone most smart cards but you can emulate other peoples smart cards. It means eximining what the real smart card does and writing software for your blank smart card that will pretend to be the real thing.
Nowadays the official cards are so complex that it is rarely possible to do that, hence the lack of available hacks around.
Fun cards were a very cheap way to do this when the encryption on the official card was a lot simpler but they just do not have the power now to do the work required.
