hi folks complete n00b here

bought one of these for my old man, he likes german and dutch tv

anyway paid and the company came out wired it up etc

now we want to get more channels and have it rescanned as a lot of channels have disappeared or moved ie nickelodeon is now RTL etc

also is it worth buying a card to get the encrypted channels and where would one find a german/dutch tv card

also my dish is static doesnt have a motor

there is alot of FTA Dutch channels and lots of of pay channels in German on 23.5E the pay channels can be opened at the moment by patching but most of them require an HD set. there is also loads of FTA German channels on 19.2E.
you can re- scan yourself anytime you will not lose anything stored.you didnt say what sat you are on but assume its either 13E or 19.2E.

the best results will be got by motorizing the dish you can get all the help you need on this site.I dont know about any dutch/german cards but someone else may.

cheers mate didnt know about scanning has added a few new channels, but theres a lot more encrypted

how do i view the encrypted, legally? theres a few decent channels tbh

and what is patching and how do i do it?

im on 19.2 E yeah but seen loads of options when scanning like sirius and thor?, could I change from 19.2 E to say astra 25 is it? would I get more channels?

you view the encrypted channels legally by buying a card to put in the cardslot on the technomate you can buy them from lots of dealers egpulsat,cardmania,etc.,but some of the packages you may want you can only obtain cards in the country they are meant for.
patching is installing unofficial 3rd party software into your box followed by a softcam that will open some encrypted channels (mainly on Thor @1W).you can get all the information from the sticky threads in the technomate section.
19.2E will get you the most FTA German channels.
23.5E has got some good Dutch FTA channels.and you can move the dish by hand if its easy to reach but even with a meter its going to be a real pain every time you want to move it,much better to consider installing a motor you can get a good one for less than ?60 plus fitting.or you can fit a motor yourself with the help from the lads on this site.
once correctly installed you will have access to many satellites providing you have good sight to the southern skies.

you could also consider fitting a 4.3 degree monoblock lnb this would give you access to 19.2E & 23.5E without moving the dish.

Not bad vaue, you can also open up digi tv package on 1 west if you aptch and load softcam. Lyngsat will show you all fta channels available. Channel/sat changing quick enough.

as "fearona" says seems a good enough deal and definately worth doing,if the install is accurate you will have a lot more than 500 channels and as i said before 23.5E will give you dutch progs to watch as well as the german on 19.2E,and most other languages on various other satellites.

if you get a copy of"what satellite & digital tv" from smiths its got a satellite guide in it which will tell you what to expect for your dish size.
