Hello all, just joined the forum, got myself some spanky new sat spotting kit

    Hi!
Used to be well into feed hunting when i lived on a farm on the wirral, i had a 1.8 ?maybe a 2.4? dish, Loads of old anolouge kit, card programmer, season interface, manual positoner, d2mac decoder and lots of sky progrsamming shenanigans.
Eventually moved out of home about 2001 about the same time high winds or maybe my dads tractor knocked over my dish smashing it.
Been waiting for the digital scene to settle down an have finally upgraded my kit (i can;t find any of my old pic cards or programmer since i moved into my own place)
got a technomate 5400+ super in black off ebay last week and have spent the last few days leaning out of the window an janking on the sky mini-dish to move between 28e to 19e an 13e while i get let down by a sucession of second hand dishes off places like gumtree and ebay.
I'd found an ace set up for 70quid that had a channel master 1.2 an actuator an vbox positioner + lnb etc but i got beat by a eastern european who apparently sellotaped the thing to his roof an drove happily away with what should of been my dish!

Its probably a faux pas to admit to janking the rusty dish about on the wall to pick up the fta signals but i dont know why people get so worried about finding the sats i got a really good signal first time

i miss analouge! used to love sitting outside on the farm in the late 90's with a 60-80cm dish an a homemade ground spike picking up european satellites with an amstrad grx? 200 and a tiny portable telly!

hopefully i'll get a few months of free telly out of my technomate ( thats like calling it gabbafella or trancefriend) with the softcams before i have to get more serious an prog a card or buy a cam.

Currently is there any reason to buy a cam? is there anything i can't softcam with a 1.1m triax dish motorised, that i could decode if i invested in a cam?? i'm looking forward to getting back to the scandinavian satellites. tv1000 was my fav. hehe bad action films and ropey ~~~~ made it seem dodgy an fun when i was a teenager!

My old dish never went past 10w i dont think or so due to less than professional set-up an actuator, i'm lookin forward to the luxury of auto positioning h-h mount! luxury! i want to see whats happening on hispasat 30w etc.

never had it so good !

hugz peace love and fairy poo 2 all the peeps i'll be asking for advice when the keys need updating and next doors cat eats my lnb

oh an will it interfear with my set up ( homemade ground stand with a 6ft pole to clear fences etc) if i mount a cb pole on the back of my mast?

    in a bit...

hi fairyskruff and welcome to DK.That was a good first post but sorry to tell you that you wont open mutch scandinavian satellites with a 5400 and at the presant time a cam would be bad money spent the sat world has changed over the last 18 months with nothing or very little open with softcams. All the major sats have gone to nagra3 or NDS which cant be opened with cams or softcam the only sure way is to get a linux box and cardsharing

ok cool, i've found a triax dish 1.1m(td110) for 50 quid new in liverpool and second hand for 70-80 in mancheser but it comes with a new 2300 motor, i'll probably get the motor from ebay for 40 free delivery an get the dish from liverpool as the guys not got back to me. i used really cheap coax that came with the dish package i bought but i think i'm gonna spoil myself on good cable an some decent fittings this time. what is the grade cable you guys recommend? i'm thinking about getting the metal geared 2600 motor anyway as it seems to have the best annecdotal reviews.

also is it hard to card share with a linux box? i might look into getting a second hand one an giving my mum this to watch her spanish tv. you'd think someone would make a cam that could be networked? they'd make a bomb!

how hard is it to get c band on a offset dish? jus for fun like? i've seen the power ratings of some of the sats an surely i'll be able to pull in a few channels? does any manufactorer to a all in one lnb that has a low loise level or is it possible to fit 2 side by side?

hey if you were offered a cheap 2M dish would you get it? i was thinking about putting it fixed on one of the scandinavian sats or something with a decent lnb on one hard to get sat with 2 others on a homemade holder to pull in the others around 5e-5w area.

hehe my friend has been buying an proging cable boxs for a few years, i wish my area had fibre optic!

oh an if anyones read this far whats my best sat for movies like film 4 but different, i dont care if they're not even new jus in english... any channels run films nightly or something?
and music channels, pref in english? i've had a look at the listings an there doesnt seem much... and even les when i actually got the mini dish on 28, 19 an 13, but that might have been dish size. whats the signal quality required to decode? about 50-60%

many questions, hope i can get some answers, i'm gonna try an make an upto date guide for noobs with photos an see if i can get it put on a sticky when i have finished.

hope my digital experiece isnt like packet radio with the pc an i've missed the boat. surely eventally someone will crack nargra 3 tho?

      peace love an hugz xxxx

hi the 1.1 triax will pull all the channels you will need 1w is very good foor films football other good sats are 19e sky duechland(used to be premiree)16e digilab, pink 13 east is very good with sky italy, nova greece 30w has some good stuff on it,have a look on lyngsat will give you a good idear of the channels and what you will pick up on your dish.As for the 2600 motor i have one and i am very happy with it.
As for a dual lnb with c band i have no idear not much worth looking for on c band these days.
If i was offered a 2 meter dish no i would not get it becuase the wife would kill me .I have a 1.5m dish and do not use it much as i can pick up everything i need on my 1 meter.the main sat for a 2 meter would be to get show time on 7w for the football but that is changing it box to a uncrakable new box soon.Plus you would only be able to get the verticals on a 2meter and may be some horozontals in the late evening in good weather.

Fairy, careful with your mention of c.share.

Though that and linux may well be the way to go.

Keys on 1w are good to go at the moment, but for how long.

Maybe look into the Protek/nanoxx box, am having lots of joy with that at the moment.
