Patches and softcam updates...

Hi everyone, as you can probably tell I'm another noob to this digital reciever lark...
Just need to know in laymans terms what the difference is between patches and softcam updates, I know I'm missing something glaringly obvious...but I'm a dumbass that misses glaringly obvious things.
Anyway I've managed to get a eurovox up and running and my bud's got a Technomate 5200 d usb super+ (phew), is it just a case of downloading the patch/ softcam update on to a stick n' running it through the box or would you suggest a null modem cable and doing it via my comp...
All help will be gratefully recieved and I might send you a christmas card while I'm at it...

you can load either way but USB is easier as you dont need a loader.the patch is unofficial software,the softcam updates the keys in it. you patch 1st then put latest softcam in. full instructions can be found inthe red sticky section.this is for TMs I know nothing about eurovox but others will.
