5400 sat installation problems

hi

i'm totally new to sat and technomate and struggling to install!

did all as written in manual but cannot get quality higher than 20% (level is 90%)

(i tried to find 13E and use motor to automatically scan fo the rest but no luck....)

If your setting your system up from scratch. Best way is to point your dish south. Then drive the motor to Thor 1W and onto BBC world news and tune it in from there. Sounds easy in theory doesn't it ? If only.

especially for the advice about subtraction of sat e/w from local . ( i thought that inputting local values in the set up would sort that out)

i have not tried your advice yet but before i do i hope you can tell me about :

is it realistic to expect to find the first sat without the signal meter?

i adjjusted the pole as vertical as i could with spirit level. but when i attached the motor + dish the main pole appeared to flex. And there is a bit of play in the motor shaft. Do you think this is significant enough to spoil my efforts to find the first sat and will it affect the qality of reception?

how big movements on the dish should i make and not miss the sat?

... and also, it was mentioned that lnb can be damaged by water in coax. how do you know if lnb is damaged?

hello mate
(1)I"ll try and answer your questions in order.
if using USALS you do need to input your local lat/long into the STB. the adjustment I was refering to was for initial set up for diseqc 1.2 .
(2)you will only find that 1st sat if you either have sight of the TV or use a meter the difference between signal and no signal is not a lot.
(3)the mounting pole must be 100% plumb otherwise you wont track the arc.the pole should be 2" minimum steel and fixed securely.what sort of motor do you have?there should be no play in it.
(4) my advice is to go the USALS route as once you have that 1st sat the others will fall into place automatically.just sweep slowly L/R past where you think 1West is (if using that as your target sat) if no luck move the dish either up/down and try again do not adjust the latitude setting on the motor that remains set at your local lat.if you follow the guides you will succeed.

(5) lnbs themselves are pretty water proof the problems start if water gets in at the F-plug joint but a good wrap of self amalgamating tape will stop that. if you think the lnb is faulty change it they are cheap enough.
