    Technomate recievers

    Hi all
    Great forum
2 really newbie questions if i may-
I have decided to replace my current reciever (some fortecstar thingy i got from maplins) and after reading here have decided to go for a technomate one
Now problem is which would you guys recommend out of the TM-5400 CI+ usb super+ or
    TM-5600 CI usb super

2nd softcams if i patch and the install a softcam do i still need to use a card of some sort?

The answer is probably staring me in teh face but i have read so many pages i am missing the obvious i guess

Sorry for the long post and thanks to anyone who can offer enllightenment

    Take care guys

out of the 2 go for the 5400 ci+usb super+ as it has a multicrypt card reader.
you will not need to use a card if you patch/softcam but its no good patching unless you can receive 1West,do you have a motor?
patch & softcam will still open digi tv at the moment on 1West but its not known for how much longer.

I"ve sorted out what you need and sent them with this post.
If you read "noobs guide to patching your technomate" in the sticky section you wont go wrong.I havent sent the loader as its so much easier to patch via usb stick.
the softcam may be out of date by the time you get set up but the latest one will be in the stickies.

The way forwaqrd is the TM600pvr about the same price. Linux cs capable as the TM5000 series will soon be obsolete when Digi tv goes on 1 west.

Once digi tv goes on 1W is there any alternatives out there?

Reading the above post - i am not overly conversant with using a linux based machine, what advantages would there be over other recievers?
I am pretty well up to date with P.Cs and OSs but as with the majority i have been largely Windows based although i have dabbled with a few Linux distros.
I am guessing here that patching etc would be slightly different or am i missing something?
Again though thanks for the help it is something i will look into
