The TV pic is scrambled in N3 and the card holds the key to unsramble it basically.
The card doestn change its the stream that changes from N2 to N3, although when we are solely on the N3 system to be able to view the channel you will need to have a card which holds the N3 key.
Curretnly in a lot of areas they are sending the N2 & N3 (possible N1 as well) streams, so whatever card you have you will be okay with any card.
Basically on linux boxes you use software (EMU) instead of a cam to unscrable the stream along with the card. N3 can be read by emus and would work in a linux box running the correct emu, but you also need other info such as the boxkey.
Sky Italia & Calcio, Polsat and a few others are already on N3 and have been for years, and their cards work in 3rd party receivers such as DM500's. -
bascially Irish cable providers were using Nagra 1 up to the start of last year 2008-2009, for them to upgrade to N3 standard they were using a simulcast of N1 & N2 as N2 was required for the N3 upgrade, most receivers issued by chorus previously (General Instrument- Gerrald) were only demodulating receivers and not a true Decoder.
Meaning much the Codes required to hack the service were been transmitted in the cable signal and by using a PIC chip programed with a spool of code Demodulation could take place.
Now NTL & Chorus have issued up to date receivers that are now classed as Decoders and not the old form of Demodulation receivers, N3 can not by opened in any way (At the moment at least) because firstly the algorithm has not been cracked, and second the signal code changes every few seconds unlike N1 & N2.
N3 has been in full operation for well over 2 years on satellite television and in America since last year with many millions of Blank screens and N3 is yet to be opened, N3 is as good as if not better than NDS and will most likely never be opened.Comment
