Testing dish signal

My sat box has stopped receiving a signal from the LMB is there any way of checking the signal if the box is not working and I haven't got a signal strength meter?
Any thoughts or comments (good and bad) on the new Amstrad DRX895 HD 1.5TB box thinking of changing my old and knackered Thomas. Thanks

Hello xb9 and welcome to DK.
Sometimes a faulty lnb will display only horizontal signals but as yours is receiving no signals you should look for a bad connection by unswrewing the f connectors as the recent snow may have caused water from thawing snow to enter and cause a short or maybe itis just a loose f connector where the cable joins the lnb.
Lnb's are not that expensive now so it is no harm to carry a spare which you can try anyway. It's all down to a process of elimination and the joy of this hobby is finding out for yourself.
