    Newbee with some questions

afternoon all. i am a newbie here and just want to ask a few questions. have read the newbee guides and all other stickies on this forum but i still have some questions. firstly how do i tell whether my technomate has been patched and also is there a way of getting EPL games on a technomate without a card? have data transfered via usb the latest softcam keys but still cannot get any channels keep getting message "scrambled channels" no matter which channel i choose which is the best to be plugged into for sports channels? thor, hotbird eutelsat?

    box is a 5400 CI+ USB super and have a 90cm dish

any advice would be much appreciated

    thank you

hi, if you have the latest patch and softcam you can recieve quite a few decent channels at the moment. the best sats to look at are as follows...

    hellassat2@39e.. bulsat
    [email protected] (fta only)
    [email protected].. kabel germany
    [email protected].. orf/austriasat/c+nl
    hotbird@13e.. rai/tv globo/mezzo/equida pro/al ouala
    eutelsatw2a@10e.. jsc feed
    eurobird9a@9e.. espn classic/nasn/disney
    [email protected].. nrk/svt/dr/tv2den/romantica/espn classic/travel/pb+pg (xxx)
atlantic [email protected].. sportitalia 1+2 (fta)

this should be enough to keep anybody going with movies/general ent.sport and xxx. just check your patch is on by going to the information page to see if there is a cas/biss menu, if not then if i remember correctly press 2004 to activate the emu function.regards mdt

hi mate thanks for your response. yeah theres cass/bis menus there but i am having real trouble in getting access to the channels. so far have tried thor2/3 and although its found over 200 channels all are scrambled? am i missing something or should i just stick to the list of sats you have provided above? last year when i did a search i was able to get digisport (rom) for prem games but now although i can see it it just comes up with scrambled channel. in fact the only channel that has come up and is viewable so far is musiqu1 on hotbird

if your dish is a fixed 90cm one then you cant switch to 39east. you could of course ajust your dish manually but if you get yourself a motor for your dish and then you will get access to the sats i mentioned. the reason why you dont get digi-tv anymore is they switched to n3 and are no longer available via patch/emu. regards mdt

ok so figured out through abit of reading that 16e is where tring is at. is an 90cm fixed dish enough to have a go? and i dont have any techy kit to help me find 16east so i am going to attempt to use the boxe's signal indicator as a guide to help me find it...is it possible this way? cheers

you can try for 16E with your box like this mate go to menu>satellite set up.then scroll through the satellite line to 16E eutelsat.then on the transponder line scroll to 11.283H 27500 this is a tring transponder but only "vision plus" is FTA.you will then have to go outside and move your dish to get a signal,(both up/down as well as E/W) shown by the red bars at bottom of the screen going yellow blue, you must then scan(red button on h/set)use Satellite Finder / Dish Pointing Calculator with Google Maps | DishPointer.com to get the initial direction.I dont know if a tring card works in your box or whether you need a cam but others will know. it will help if you can see the Tv from where the dish is being adjusted. I use a portable in the garden and run a tempory cable to the lnb.It may take a while to locate the sat but keep trying it will work.

lovely jubbly thank you dick. yeah been doing more reading about azimuth and elevation and also the lnb skew. so used the calculator t figure out my current setup to receive thor 2/3 and then i did another calculator to work out what is needed to get 16east. currently comparing the two and then going to have a go at adjusting the dish tonight (fingers crossed) will report back when i do receive the channels even though they will be encrypted will i still be able to see the channels there?

Tring cards will update in your tehnomate without a conax cam using the latest sofware, official or unofficial.
But to be on the safe side i would ask the shop to activate the card before shipping it.

Europe, Africa & Middle East - LyngSat

If you try to scan for a transponder on 16e just be aware that some transponders (TP's) are similar on 28e 19e and 13e so you may be getting a good signal but no picture because you are picking up a similar TP from a nearby satellite. And some of the sats are close when you are scanning.
Dont let all the info confuse you, just take your time and it will all fall into place. Good luck.

thanks for all the responses - you have all been very helpful

i spent the best part of 2 hours with the dish last night trying to get it on eutelsat. the closest i came to 16 east was getting hotbird on 13e. i was gutted getting so close. so trying again i changed the skew a little bit more to -15 and adjusted the dish elevation and azimuth but to no avail it really is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. going to give it another shot tonight, but might just end up biting the bullet and getting a sat service guy to come in and do it for me.....

keep at it mate you will be well pleased once youve done it.
the tring channels will show and you should get sound but with the scrambled sign on vision.another FTA TP you can use on 16E is 10.892H27500 carli and golica are the channels.
if you can get 13E again 16E is only a tad to the left of it(when looking from behind the dish)and a touch down on the elevation only 1or2 degrees. I wouldnt put anymore skew on than dishpointer tells you to.
have you considered motorising the dish as if you use "usals" once you have successfully tuned in one sat all the others will be found automatically and no skew to worry about.

i have to say dick, you are good for motivation!! defo gonna give this another try. i think with everything flooding through my mind last night i accidentally shifted the elevation upwards after finding hotbird on 13east. DAMN!! will give it another try - thanks again for transponder and for the channels - fingers crossed

i have to agree with you about Dick and it would be cheaper to get yourself a motor than get some sat guy out, give it a go you dont know what our missing out on.
