Hi, I have a small problem here - couple of days ago, the external HDD I had connected to my Vu Solo failed to work. All my recordings were mysteriously gone and the HDD wasn't recognized by my Solo. I could still access it via FTP though. Anyway, now I want it to get back to work again. But here lies the problem - my Solo fails to format it. When I go to 2 x blue button and try to format it/make the partition, the Solo sort of hangs in the middle of doing it. Tried to do it the other way (format/partition ext3) using my PC and various programs but still nothing - when plugged to my Solo, the HDD can be seen but it can not be formated. And the HDD itself should be fine as I run various error checks and all say that it's in good health. The drive itself is WD SATA 160GB and my solo is running Black Hole 2.5 image. Any help most welcome!

There is s bit of a bug with the latest bh mainly 2.04 but I have noticed it a couple of times in 2.05 on solo which gives the same error as your having where hdd is ok first time format and mount but then dissapears and can't be recognised again. You have a few options here. First one is to flash the full backup you should have made when you first had everything working the way you want it to and see if that recognises the hdd. Next one is to check if the disk has a recognised partition with a telnet command then format and mount it straight from telnet. Third one is to flash the image again and start from scratch. -
There is a perfectly good telnet function on dcc or you could use putty. Telnet command to find disks connected is fdisk -l you are looking for one that is the correct size and should be called dev/sda1 or something along those lines. If you can't find that or don't know how to do that you will need to do a lot more reading. BEWARE you can seriously screw up your image with telnet
