    Opinion on Vu+ Duo

Been doing a lot of reading about these and 1 thing that seems to be evident is that there are quite a few people out there with PSU failures, display failures or the dreaded red LED failure.

I appreciate that people only post when things go wrong but I was thinking of getting 1 of these but wanted to know what I'm letting myself in for as I've no problems whatsoever with my dm800se.

Suppose this thread is much of a muchness but I'm looking for peoples views on these

Well i have had no problems with mine at all it has worked as it should from Day one so cant complain, Although i do realise some people have been unfortunate with Duo's from certain suppliers and are encountering the problems you mentioned.

But and its a big But from reading round on various forums especially the Ferrari one many problems are caused due to flashing the wrong bootloader, Trying to flash the CFE upgrade through the RS232 port instead of via USB like a standard machine. And lastly trying to Upgrade the kernel through a USB to Serial converter cable which is a big No No.

I do feel for these people who buy from a supposedly reputable dealer and once received its DOA, And then spend days or even weeks trying to resolve the situation.

Basically what it boils down to is your buying a Clone so you pay your money and take a chance, If you want the added benefit of a warranty and after sales care buy original.

SO the red led problem can be caused by an incorrect bootloader and incorrect kernel updates, much like the ca error that you can get on a dreambox clone.

That makes me feel much better, I read and read through loads of threads on I have to admit because I've not got the box and therefore tried some of the update it can be difficult to comprehend what exactly is the cause and the solution.

I would assume with any new Clone Duo purchased now it will be V2.0 meaning it will have had the Kernel 3.1.1 upgrade done already for you, so all that is required is to Flash your preferred image onto the box and away you go.

If you do get a faulty one that is a Red Light suspect straight away then it is more than likely faulty, What i do and have always done with the Clones is run them on the stock image first for a day or two just to make sure everything is working as it should then flash your image.

Yeah, I tend to that too, so when I had my dm800hd I ran it with Gemini for a good few weeks, even my dm800se I ran with Gemini but only for a few days.

Think I might pull the trigger later today and join the elite dual tuner club

red light problem are more likely to be loose wires or need to be flashed over
