VU Clone Duo Power Supply *Available*

Just a heads up it appears that with the recent trend of broken Clone Duo's and Solo's our Chinese friends have now released a PSU for faulty units Retails at $25

Quick conversion including DHL postage if you need one quick comes in at around ?28 all in, a bit of a saving on an original at ?51.

Ha - thanks mate - may need one of these soon. Wouldn't be coming from a company starting with a "Y" would it??

EDIT - Just found it. Its from a company starting in M ........................ which is in reality the company starting in "Y".

Its a real pity they can't supply me with this item to replace the one in my totally bricked VU+ clone which I bought from them two weeks ago. The new PSU fried itself after 24hrs. I asked for a replacement PSU - no response - nothing.

Bear that in mind peebs. Buyer beware. See my other thread on Paypal claims, and the other on the whole sorry saga.

These PSUs may have life expectancies measured in hours not months/years.

Seems I "may" be one of the first customers of these PSUs.

After 2 weeks of pretty much nothing from the HK supplier I got fed up and sent a "direct" note to them yesterday.

Its was polite and all, but indicated that I was prepared to name and shame them across numerous European satellite forums (including this one), unless they pulled their finger out and supplied a new PSU to me.

I got a reply back within hours thus:
pls don't talk to me like it .
other wise i won't provide you anything.
for the vu duo power supply , i will send you no problem .
Its taken 4 or 5 emails to get to this point.
I have no idea if the PSU will turn up, but its the only positive email I've had thus far.
            I live in hope.

Hmmmz its a bit sad when you have to resort to threats to get a response! Im considering buying one of these boxes but the fact ppl are having issues with PSU's is a frightening prospect. It was bad enough getting the parts to solder onto a sly plus boxes blown PSU. Can anyone tell me if the capacitors are marked with values etc just in case.

At least then I can source them and do a repair myself if necessary.

I believe the Caps are all marked and avail easily enough.
But none of my caps (which are in a Vu+ Duo from the same company and therefore identical PSU) appear to have blown (at least via visual inspection, i.e they are not bulging) so the problem may be elsewhere. Just something to be aware of.
So although the outlay is less than sourced from UK company, you may may still be wasting your cash.

Latest here is that I getting the run-around again.

Got email yesterday saying PSU would be shipped and Tracking number supplied later. Asked me to close Paypal claim.
Also got update to Paypal dispute where supplier is officially refusing refund with the comment
hi, pls close the dispute , today will send out the power supply to you .
So I asked for Tracking number via Paypal resolution centre - nothing so far.
Don't beleive them. So phoned Paypal this morning

They advised I do not close until I either receive the PSU or a refund.
Something to be aware of peebs. If you raise Paypal dispute you cannot reopen it and importantly you also can't raise a new one for the same item.
Clearly the HK guy is trying it on.
I don't expect any PSU now, as after 3 or 4 emails yesterday - heard nothing since I asked for the tracking number.
Clearly they are hoping I would be stupid enough to close the dispute.

Which email address did you use? If it's a group email box then it could have gone to any of the people there.

I used to contact them via the messaging tools on aliepxress and then email a copy of the chat to them.

Also try and be nice with no threats etc... will get you much further as the person at the other end unfortunately is bound by the rules/law of the company they are working for.

No its not a group email. I have two individuals I have been emailing, a Tony and a Tina, both with their own email addy's.

My threats as you put it have been polite and all. Nothing more thean an indication that if they fail to contact me I will make the Paypal dispute an official claim, and a suggestion that if that happens then they are likely to get very bad press in the European forums. Nothing rude.

The guy was clearly trying it on yesterday. Wanted me to close the dispute immediately on a promise that he will send a tracking number - which he hasn't. ....... So I haven't

If you look at some of the customers on the Dreambox portion of this forum, you will see similar tales of promises from this company that don't lead to anything and people having to resort to claiming money via Paypal or Credit card companies. If only I'd seen these before I ordered. Oh well.....

Hi i am having similar problems with a vu duo clone my mate bought form china..i did warn him about the reliability as i have an original here which has been faultless for almost 2 years..

Anyway his came with bh 1.7.2 and the screen was loose inside but it also just has a red light only, the box does boot up to main screen and did bootup out of the box from new but even with a channel list in no channels appear at all, scan comes up with 0 services found also as if both tuners are faulty?? am thinking it could also be the power supply tbh so i have got my mates paypal payment code and mailed them..they want a photo of no screen which i have sent.

I have tried older bh images to test and the box looks as if its bricked with older images but when i put bh 1.7.2 or my full bh 1.7.3 backup on the box boots up again...not sure if that issue is something to do with the clones actual bootloader but it does have a v.20 sticker on it which i think means it has the latest bootloader so i,m confused really.

I,m also pondering over whether or not i want to risk taking my psu out of my original and stick it in this pile of crap to eliminate the fault?

Think a paypal dispute is imminent also

                        Thanks

From what I've been told, you can't put an original psu in a clone. They're not compatible.

If it's v2 or has bh 1.7.2 it has latest bootloader. You have said it boots up so can't be bricked. Have you inserted hdd and if you have have you disconnected? Make sure all connections inside are pushed home. With power disconnected of course. If it is psu then you shouldn't wait long for replacement hopefully.
