    Vu Duo Video Resolution

I have a vu duo running vix 2.4. Very pleased with setup apart from the fact that some hd channels dont show proper widescreen image. Some programmes like scrubs on e4 hd and simpsons on channel 4 hd do not fill up the screen. Its like a 4:3 image with black vertical boxes on each side of the screen.

Is this normal, I have went to av settings and changed display 4:3 content as to each different setting but doesnt make a difference.

Definitely has to be the programme as when simpsons is on channel 4 hd is a square box but when advertisement comes up its back to full widescreen...

Those black bars down either side of old episodes of the simpsons and fututrama are unfortunately part of the picture it self and cant be removed without stretching the hell out of the picture. They are put there by the broadcasters them selves and are the same on all receivers including Sky uk HD receivers.

I can confirm this. My current Sly box does the same. Its usually because the original recordings were done in SD format and the broadcasters either dont have widescreen versions or there never was a widescreen version made.

You can change the picture format if you have a TV that has this feature, often by switching it from auto to 16:9 or stretch works well, however it does stretch the image to silly levels in some cases
