Networking home plugs what are they and what are they for. Do i need them when my vu+duo arrives or they a luxury extra? An idiots guide would be helpful. Thanks in advance for replies.

they are only to get your box connected to the internet if your router is no where near box ie another room as all boxs need a internet connection wired or wireless

they use the plug sockets around your home to send and receive the signal from your router great little devices if needed

You need to connect your VU+ to your router/internet. I use Homeplugs, to put it simply they turn your electricity cables into network cables. You place one near your router, connect to mains and connect to router via network cable. You plug another into a socket near your VU+ and connect this via a network cable to your SatBox. Best advised to follow instructions for password protection as your network will cover several houses and not just your own.

The alternative is a WIFi connector which plugs into your router and you connect to your router using wireless. Okay for some applications but Homeplugs will provide greater bandwidth if you want to stream video around your network. Will also reduce ping and latency for CCCam. Given a choice I would use Homeplugs every time.

          Best regards,

Thanks suppose I'll have to give them some thought. One question, how different would that be to me connecting routre directly to stb.

Exactly the same no difference at all and homeplugs look alot neater than 30 feet of ethernet cable if your router is miles away from the box.
Pair of homeplugs roughly cost 30ish quid.
              Andy.

                  It depends.

If you can wire a network cable directly from box to router this will give you the most robust technical option. Homeplugs are subject to issues such as quality of wiring and noise. This means that the quality of connection can vary substantially in the wrong conditions. Notwithstanding that I find that Homeplugs work very well just make sure you buy the fastest possible.

                  Regards,

I had a fully wired network in my old house and it is amazing even compared with home plug but both are better than wireless. I'm using home plugs until I get my network sorted.
