Why use a mem stk for vu+duo

I need to-morrow to buy a mem stk for my vu+, What type of things do i store on it and why, can't these anything i loose not be reinstalled online ? Whats the big deal. Also any time this evening I've tried to download plugins i get this msg SORRY FEEDS ARE DOWN FOR MAINTENANCE. Are they or does this thing just not like me? Thanks in advance for your replies.

    Hi,

I personally store my picons and EPG data on my USB stick, and keep my HDD for recordings and image/settings backups. I also have another USB stick which I use to flash images to the box.

If the feeds are down (I assume you're referring to the Vix image?) it's usually because inage updates are being uploaded to the server. However, I'v just checked and they seem to be fine now.

    Hope that helps.

I have an Uno (ViX 2.4), and I'm currently storing EPG & Picons on the internal HDD to avoid filling up the flash. However sometimes I notice a lot of lag in the EPG/Bouquet list which I think is due to the loading of of picons. Does the box 'spin down' the HDD when idle or something?

I assume using a USB flash stick would improve this? Has anybody switched from HDD -> USB that could give an idea of the performance improvement for EPG/Picons (if any)?

          Hi,

There is a setting in Vix which puts your HDD into standby (I have mine set to one minute). It's in Menu/Setup/System/Hard Disk/Hard Disk Setup. Not sure what the default setting is, but I would imagine that once the disk goes into standy, the lag you experience when it comes out of standby. I think most Vu users would say a USB for picons and EPG data is the best option.

That makes sense, so think I'll set mine up that way too. What size flash drive would I need to store EPG data (updated daily) and picons?

ETA: I only use 28.2E at present

                  Hi,

Forgot to mention I also have a 32 Mb swap file on my USB. In terms of size, my EPG data is normally about 6 to 7Mb and ny picons folder is 0.5Mb (I have picons for all major satellites), so a 1Gb stick is more than enough.

I also use a 1gb stick which is the smallest size I could find in my house. Any cheap and cheerful stick will do to be honest.

                        Think I'll order 1.

Anyway the bain of my life (vu+ duo) has found its way into the living room, why? cuz i figured how to organise the epg into alphabetical order. But i still can't set up a bouquet list. When i try to install a plugin i get msg telling me blah blah blah if i want to continue i have to download plugins in unstable manner. What have i done? think its another format and try again . Please explain to me in detail what buttons to push to get a bouquet sorted. Also can i name each bouquet i create?

when internet is sorted you should be ok to do it,its a channel dump file you use,i use sqt.flip flops as that gets updated on a regular basis, there may be 7 folders, saying movies ,sports, entertainment etc each channels has a home to go to so all movie channels be put there.same for the rest and i am off to bed cya later.
