VU + Duo Clone Ferrari V3? Security Update

Hello I have purchased a new clone box and it come with Blackhole 1.7.2. I have updated to 1.7.5 and its running fine.

I would like to update to the latest images , please can someone tell me if this is possible. I believe that they have released new firmware for the security chip which will make this possible?

if so is it safe to update and how do I update? My box has a silver sticker on the back saving V3 and my remote control is white. Does this sound like a V3 Ferrari box?

I was given a RS32 serial adapter with the box but I am running Apple Mackintosh systems. Is the update only via a windows operating system?

I cant answer your question on the Mac part for the software but the instructions and files needed are here

Even though it is a version 3 if you are set on using later images it is probably advisable to do the update with the lead and null modem cable

      You will need to either
      1. Update the security chip with the 3.2 binary which will let you use original images
2 Have a look at the ferrari website for newer images that use older drivers that are marked V2

I will take a look on the website. Can I brick the box if the flash goes wrong or is it repairable? Just worried in case I do more damage than good?

Yes you can brick the box and dont even think about updating with the IC and null modem with one of those usb-serial adaptors you need a PC/Laptop with a proper RS232 on board

            New images

I like to look about on different forums to do with my Duo clone v2 and on the Ferrari site there is several new images in the download section that have been built using the old drivers.

I am currently running VTI 5.0 and have the BBC Iplayer and ITV plugins working well. I also use Cifs shares to access films and music on my server and record to a usb 2.5 sata drive as i always found my box was a little unstable with a 3.5 internal drive. So I would not risk screwing up my box flashing it just to use new images.

            Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. I think I will sell my box to my friend and buy a genuine one. I did not know this when purchasing the box. I like to keep my box up to date and I don't think its worth flashing if there is a risk.

If you buy a new box, go fo the solo2. Not much more than the duo, but a whole lot faster!

Thanks for the info. I like the look of the Duo 2 but to be honest I dont really need it. Only thing the solo 2 does not have is built in wifi. I am using a wifi bridge at present and it keeps going off so habe to restart the device.

Have you tried homeplugs? Been using them on my stb for over a year with no issues at all. Only cost about ?30 a pair.
