    Updated it to what exactly?
I don't think you can update it to use latest images as you need the v3 chip which is apparently faster than the v2.
And as to your question, As far as I know it has to be with null modem and you can't use a usb adapter to do it.

so i may as well just stick to pre v2.0 images then untill i find a pc with null modem.

      thanks for your advise.

Sorry mate, I misread the op. I thought you had a v2 wanting to upgrade to v3. My bad.
Yes to upgrade to v2 you need a pc with null modem running windows xp.
From what I've ead a usb adapter doesn't work either.

All V2.0 clones should have come pre-flashed with kernel 3.1.1 so unless you want to de-solder the V2.0 chip and insert a V3.0 there is pretty much nothing else to do on it and as you rightly stated just use older images

Just try flash a different image.
Give blachhole 1.7.2 a go, That's what worked for me.

1.7.2 seams to be corrupt from the site so tried an earlier one but not getting any joy im afraid.the box was restarting a lot thats why i was putting a fresh install on it.maybe theres an underlying problem?

Probably the psu or a looee connection. You can also try disconnect your hdd if you have one and then flash.

all sorted.would you believe that my pendrive was the problem with loading image.
changed it to another then no problems loading images..
