Question Help needed, complete beginner help needed setting up

Hi, im new to these forums. Just looking around i can tell that there are very experienced people here. Today i wanted to ask for some help. I wanted to set up the Dreambox 500s so i can get all channels free. I have absolutely no knowledge in modding boxes or anything at all. I've had a good look around the threads and sticky?s but cannot understand the terminology or anything! My knowledge of this subject is literally 0. In the past I've spent over ?300 on getting free channels, and i think I?m being played for a fool. This is another reason for me posting on these forums, i want to increase my own knowledge so i can finally stopped getting ripped off. So, back to the subject. I wanted to "mod" a Dreambox 500s. Well, i'm pretty sure off the first step: Buy a dreambox. I intended to buy this ?47 Dreambox: DreamBox 500S Satellite Receiver Can someone please have a look at this box and tell me if it the right one. I don?t wanted to do anything stupid. If all is well then i will order the box. So, what is the next thing i would do? Please can you guys help me out, and also remember that i have zero experience with this and try not to be too cruel... Thank you in advance.

Hi m8, you really need to do a loooooooooooot of reading from the DM section before taking the next step.

To start with, with this DM500s box youre looking at, You will only get "free to air" channels unless you sub to a C/S server of some kind.

Then again for ?40 or so its good for experimenting & learning.

(thats an older model box, newer models are black)

Hi and thanks for the quick responses! @mtv1 Is that a american website? all the prices are in dollers, i live in the Uk would i be able to order from that site? If it is identical to the one i showed you? if so, i think i will go with that one because their stock is located in the UK an would come to me faster.

@andy91 Sorry to ask this but i do not know what c/s is (sorry) could you please tell me what that mean so i can make sure never to mention it. And also, out of personal intrest, how does this all work? I have read something about Linux, but not completly sure. I have a intrest in computers and would love to know how these dreamboxes work

C/S is short for card sharing. We are not allowed to say to much about c/s on this forum so google it to find out.
All i can say is we can help you set your box up but leave the rest to yourself.

Its hard at the beginning but you really need to read up and then read again. Most on here will help you if you get stuck but most wont tolerate spoon feeding.
Flashing an image is the software for the box,the skin menus etc
Most boxes come with a flash preinstalled like Gemini but most people try others cos theres so many to choose from.
Pli Jade 3 Maxvar and Nabilosat Darkstar are very popular for these boxes.
You cant do much wrong with these boxes but you need a null modem cable to flash with.
Again google is your friend so if you dont know the terminology just google it.
Another thing questions like yours have been answered 100s of times on here so use the search button its your friend.
Get your box first and post when you hit your first problem.

    Andy.
