Default New openbox x6 newbie help needed.

    Hi,

I bought an openbox x6 and when i bought it it had amazonas sat, as I'm in the uk I looked on this forum and downloaded a channel update.

I changed the file from a dbs to an abs and started to upgrade from usb. The box went dead and cant access anything at all, even tried unplugging and leaving for a while.

    Any ideas please.

I see that you need to connect a dead box to pc with a rs232 cable, would it be an rs232 cable with a usb connection on one side?

Sorry for my ignorance, any help would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks.

    B.

You bricked the Box which means you can only restore it with an RS232 Null modem lead loads of threads and tutorial's on this subject matter in the Openbox/skybox section

Thanks, I've been having a look through the many posts on that thread, I've ordered a null modem cable and I'm going to try and get the best firmware that will suit my box.
What is the reason that i've bricked the box? is it because the channel list wasn't suitable for it?
    Thanks,
    B

More than likely as the Openbox & Skybox both use different types of firmware and Channel list files as in extensions such as .abs .dbs etc...

If you do manage to sort it out which i am sure you will make a note of what the file extension type your box uses

I know it should've been an.abs file for the firmware but as stupid me who never read enough into it, I changed a channel list from dbs to .abs and tried to use this to upgrade.

I'll have my rs232 cable in a day or two and try factory resetting the firmware if possible I will post my progress 'If any' I have also contacted the manufacturer to see if they have any support files for the box.

I think I replied to similar thread but I am afraid you are going to be out of luck if the X6 is anything like the X5 then it does not at the moment support recovery by RS232 null modem and does not have recovery tool for it, I also looked at the official manufacturers of (yojiatech.com) openbox/skybox they do not list the X6 so where are you going to get the firmware to reflash. I would suggest that your best option would be to return your box to the seller if under warranty and next time do a little research and go for a well supported box then at least you will be able to find solution to any problems that may come up.

Mahrkpat,Digicon, thanks for your replies, I have managed to get a rs232 null modem cable and have connected it up using the stb eprom upgrade program.

Couldn't find the firmware anywhere for it on the web though. I've even emailed the manufacturer and not heard back from them.(not Jojiatech though, they sent me a prompt email back saying that they don't manufacture the X6)

Would the original firmware that was on the box, although it showed south american sat be ok if I could get a hold of that?

Yes it would as this would be the original image firmware which you could re-flash to the box

Looking at the specs of the X6 it uses the ali 3601 chipset which is the same chipset as F3/M3 maybe this is just a clone rebadge therefore I think if you use the recovery software for F3 and maybe the firmware as well.

I would never bank on that either even using the same chipset, similar to the TM5402,DR HD F15, Blade 7000 all identical chipsets, board, Tuners but you cant crossflash the firmware so i would assume its the same with the Openbox/Skybox

the f3/m3 loader for clones should work if the x6 uses the m3601

I have an open box x6 that does not boot after upgrading the software. None of the RS232 recovery procedures are working for me. Can someone please confirm the correct tools/procedure to use? Has anyone successfully recovered their x6? Thanks.

I've also got a defunct x6 after firmware flash but i'm sure mine is proper bricked! allthough on powering up the green LED illuminates then the red, switches back to green and ON is displayed on the front there is no life from the Serial port, I've checked this using "Putty" (a terminal emulator) selected Serial @ 115200 with the correct com port (1 in my case) and select "open" to start listening to the port, then power the box on and I get nada!! all other Ali chip boxes I've played with report "APP init ok" or similar if the serial port is still active.

I'm wondering weather it would be feasible to remove the eprom chip (it's only an 8 pin chip as far as i can see and program it externally,

Any ideas / advice on this would be great.

P.S. I've a dump of the factory firmware should anybody need it

Maybe we can work together to solve our problem. I also posted a reply here:......................................

Have you attempted the solution in the thread above my post?
