Question 308 1.6 hdi not starting

Hi recently got the missus a 308 1.6 hdi ( 80 ) for work. Bought if my dads neighbour as it was a bad starter and he needed something reliable, when he had it it used to take about 5 tries to get started, then gradually got worse needing up to about 12. He took it to a garage who changed the glow plugs, changed the fuel filter and tries a common rail pressure sensor from a working car. Then apparantly bypassed the sender unit in the tank and it started straight away, however that was about months ago and its stood still since as he got a new car. Apparantly though once it started it would fire up all day.

Since yesterday I've took out the sender unit and cleaned the crap from under the little filter next to the pick up pipe, changed the glow plugs again and a new fuel filter but still wont start.

It seems the car has forgotton its key as it's not recognising it's in iginition as it's not bleeping when when key is left in ignition and drivers door opened, so I suspect the immobilizer will be on.

when it's running on easy start and crack off a injector nut there is fuel getting to the injectors, but as soon as i stop spraying it dies. However if just cranking over by the key and crack injector nut theres no fuel coming out.

So could it be the immobilizer stopping the pump or should there still be fuel there?
If there should be fuel there, do it sound like the pump is on its way out?

Throw scanner at it and check in live data for fuel pressure while cranking
A failure will not appear till a unit has passed final inspection

Manufacturer have make a "avoid" notice.
Change the common rail hight pressure sensor and ALSO the plug + wires from this sensor.
You will found the wire+plug on Peugeot and citroen shop.
Have put this item on catalog after feedback of garage from this problem.
Before check in live data the pressure of common rail if it's locked to pressure like 300bars. If locked to 300 or more than its this problem. If it's at 0 it's normal.

Cheers lads, it looks like the key has lost its coding from the bsi as in pp2000 it's showing no keys learned. I've tried to reprogram it but it's keep failing so waiting on a new key coming to try that. I've also bought a new receiver for inside the car and it hasn't helped. If the new key fails to program looks like I'll be looking at a new bsi or ecu?

Hi mate just changed the ecu and bsi, the remote central locking now works with the key it came with, but it's still not starting.

Hooked it up to pp2000 to check the live data and there is 2 things regarding fuel rail pressure.

Reference fuel pressure, which seems stuck on 306 bar, starts to drop down a little of cars running on easy start but no lower than 251.

Then measured fuel pressure which is stuck on 0 bar, doesnt go up at all even when car is running on easy start.

Will the car still run without injectors being programmed? I know a lot of cars do still run just a little rougher, as I'm thinking the injectors programmed to the ecu will be from the donor car yes?

Reference is what needs to be done...depends on temperature, rpm ,... not a fixed value
Measured is what really happens in the rail...
And in your case you pinpointed the issue..
Worst pump i ever saw still manage to raise the pressure 5-10 bar
    maybe the system isn't primed
    your first post..

Or you got a fubared pump

So back to post no 2
live data while cranking-fuel pressure ?
live data on easy start-fuel pressure ?
When the pressure measured reach Reference pressure should start

Definitely right code mate as it says code accepted by bsi you can now being to program keys. It gets as far as when you've got to turn ignition off then back on within 15 seconds, that's the point it fails.

They look easy enough to come out but don't want to keep throwing money at it if it might not even injectors, especially since a few posts back it got mentioned about fuel rail pressure sensor
