Locking out the main forums

It's a free forum cunny we leave it open to all and maybe it is not to everyones' liking but if we closed it to all until they posted how would we draw in the members that take a look before they post?

We try to get as many "blatant" one post to download leeches but ultimately the majority of new members are here for the right reasons.

We won't be locking down the sections any time soon unless DF changes his mind.

I do however appreciate your concerns and I wished we could filter every single "newbie" but it's a task that would prove impossible.

Best to let those that are here to leech to us and the ones that escape the net........well are they really worth the effort of worrying about, as they are not worth a thought in my opinion.

most of us came in looking for a fix for something and kept coming back because the peeps on here are dam good at what they do ..

there was always one hit wonders life goes on bet a lot of them will come back and not post but will still be able to get what they want but they will tell there buddies and that will bring more members ..

i dont see the point locking it down or making 5 posts etc, we all came in here via someone or somewhere, and through time we are still here. ..... why we still here,, erm only decent forum out there with great bunch of people that u can have banter with and ask for help.

Am sure there are loads that came in for one download after one post and still here, and contribute everyday, on sbox, or forum.

If we locked all threads except the intro section, how would people know what content is on the forum? Guests wouldnt have access. Google wouldn't be able to see the content either so we'd get no traffic from search engines. So no, we won't be locking sections.

DK is the best forum of its kind on the whole of the www, so we must have it right, no need to change anything imo

It was meant to stop new members posting anywhere other than the intro, not browsing openly. I thought would have helped the mod team also if all first posts were kept into a single forum.

I can only guess that if i went though each forum i would find members with only 1 post asking something or posting in the wrong section.

i always say if its not broke,leave well alone,once you start tinkering with things other problems always crop up,most of us have probably done it,ie clean up stuff in pc,we think we dont need,delete this,delete that,sort this,sort that,before you know it,its a system restore or worse complete reinstal.not saying admin/mods are not capable of sorting own site,just you dont know what might happen.pretty sure when have time they will just delete the 1 hit wonder threads and clean more space.

edit:i would like to add,every single person on this site was a one hit wonder at sometime,when they first got a pc,i was when first came to DK,did not have a clue,read all the data in forums on xbox,but would not sink in,till a member said call me on landline and will talk you through it,talking me through it,was a easy,job got done,and yes was very thankful of help,i did send a member ?10 note through post for help.member never ask for it i just sent.i have noticed on DK no matter what someone will try and give help,even if it is a stupid question,other sites just nag you read the forum,without advice,now to me,i can build pcs programme them with all they need,i can solder dc jacks in laptops,but cant solder qsb in xbox or other stuff like rgh,even after reading how to do it,what i am trying to say is,could have a genius posting but just has a blank spot and is stuck.ok i know ranting on and on.
