But i do not talk/use CC owned equipment, i use 3rd party boxes and modem always.

Motorola Surfboards and NTL Amits are supplied by the cable company.

I know you can also buy them from the US and other places but how can we distinguish if someone's modem is 3rd party or from the CC...we can't!

So it's a definite no no.
