Automotive section google bots

It is possible to turn off access for google bots for automotive section? Its bad that someone who dont even register can use so much knowledge.

Google bot is responsible for a lot of new users...it puts the info out there to reel them in so it might not be that all bad.

google bot brings noobs and other stuff , it brings leechers just looking for help and not giving help. It makes the value of this industry shrink. it opens doors for a guy with $200 to buy a cheap tool and do the job for pennies , where as a professional thats been in the biz for yrs who paid his dues in tools and hard work and learning is left to devalue himself and the job .
i dunno its a toss up, usa is not that congested yet but soon will be . I have many friends on here in Uk India Asia and i hear it happening everyday forced to drop prices or pass on the job .

I'm a fat dude I did a search for BK (burger king) and landed here i guess cause my weight i have blood sugar and couldnt see clearly when it said DK and not BK and I signed up . I thought i was registering for free whoppers, lost some weight vision came back now look at me ..................................hooked and Dk dont even have and special sauce

If we block search engines, we block a larger spectrum of knowledge and rely solely on word of mouth and link from other sites. Guests can see content but they can't see or download attachments. The nature of forums will always have its leechers and its helpers, hopefully we will draw more people willing to give back something to the forum that has helped them.

My advice, forget about leechers, it's not worth the effort.

Chances are the majority of people have come here because they wanted to save a buck or two and do it themselves. The moral thing would be to give in return and if people want to do that, that's the members we want to keep. It's easy to see the potchers and if you like, report the thread/post and we'll investigate it.

GREAT post, but I orginally found this site by googke, joined ONLY to leech and run, leeched but never managed to run.

I would not fret too much autofan, when it comes to automotive, chances are guests are just visiting to verify advice or "data" or part numbers, they've found elsewhere on other sites. I do that sort of thing all the time, especially in regard to tractors.

However any type of site dedicated to some hobby / sport / work / other, worth their salt, is going to have members who just sign up in desperation to get some advice and then leave afterwards.


I actually arrived here because of a search bot, as there was a manual here that might be useful. However in the almost two years I've been here, "leeched" as yet, 0 manuals / guides / "advice" thus far. It's not like I've tested all of them, nor do I need them, but the few I'd have dearly liked to have looked over haven't worked out. (Dead links and it's generally obvious the member has long gone not responding to upload requests, and/ or no pass word.)

i came looking for a fix for me box and still here nearly 7 years l8r, admittedly it was with google, but other people do use other search engines so cant block them, and bots/spiders whatever ya want to call them do push traffic this way so really need to keep them as well.

Would like to add, at M-H-M the boss has installed a weird version of anti forum, stops you logging onto dk whilst at work, but was in need of info other day, low and behold, RELEVENT post up as a guest, hasten to add was actually one if mine!
