Hi all
My personal belief is that energy is a natural resource, and as such, ought to not be commoditised and sold in a competitive market (the irony being of course, that literally most, if not all, natural commodities are, go figure...).
Anyhoo, I discovered this forum whilst searching for a solution to reset a car Sony head unit, but that can wait until another post.
In terms of my post that I don't know where to place: It's regarding a Smart LG TV I purchased in 2019. It's a great TV, and it had been going strong for well, four years, until it just went off one day a month or two ago. No power any longer, no standby light.
Tried a new power cable, didn't work.
Tried the numerous resetting methods (e.g. holding down the unit power button for however many seconds, leaving it unplugged overnight), didn't work.
One thing I do remember is the first few times I plugged it in afterwards, I saw a very brief flash of light on the screen, it didn't cover the whole screen, only part of it. I've got a feeling the backlight has failed, and that this is a vital power feature that enables the TV to switch on? Or perhaps I'm horribly wrong.
Nonetheless, on Reddit I read of "sh*t capacitors" when it comes to LG TVs, so this could be another possibility.
The model number is LG49SM8200PLA. A quick google search reveals these are for sale in refurbished status, so I'm guessing I have a chance here.
Personally, whilst the logical thing may be to do just buy a new TV, I don't really want to take this older TV to the recycling centre if there's a way I can get it going again... So I suppose this is my last-ditch attempt to see if I can bring the TV back to life before inevitably buying a new one...
