    i'm connected to the internet via nthell subscription modem on cable,

    i think i only have 1 network card i havent modified the pc apart from additional ram,

    going on what aftermath said i change the ip address on my box and save, when i return to communication set up its changed back to the original address...
    if its changing back to original address, its just a setting thats wrong.

    Try unticking DHCP , i cant remember dbox settings off the top of my head, but is it set on Static IP.

              what programme you using, and you deffo got a crossover cable connected between PC and dreambox.

              username = root
              password = dreambox ?

                im using flashfxp, i got the crossover cable made yesterday in my local pc clinic, the guy there said he checked it and it was fine, when i got home i got a full colour diagram of a crossover and checked it for continuity with a multimeter making sure it was crossed in the right place, 1 to 3 and 2 to 6 and vice versa and it was fine,

                im using, username root and password dreambox, im going to try a ping again with DCC........

                  i tried a ping with dreambox control centre, it shot from zero to 100% in 2 secs and found nothing, its beginning to feel like its the crossover but how when all seems fine when tested with a meter,

                  it has me baffled, im after doin a heap of starviews and eurovox for my mates yesterday and this mornin, and heres me with my dreambox with nothing.....

                    I personally would hook up the dreambox to tv, go to comms setup and set a fixed IP there in the 192.168.x.x range, then set your computer to a fixed IP in the same range (one below). Shouldn't have any problems with that.
                    Check firewall is not causing a issue too, disable it temporarily if you have to.

                        PC IP - Go to Network Settings, Lan, Right-click (properties). Stay on General tab and scroll in window to TCP/IP, select properties and set a IP there. Do not worry about DNS setting (leave blank)

                        Yes, direct connection between dbox and pc, nothing else. I use DCC (Dreambox Control Centre) as the config side (radio buttons) is all covered and makes it so easy for people. Covers config for crossover, router (and i forget the other). You then type your IP into the box for the dream and hit reconnect, couldn't be simpler.

                          on vista

                          right click network icon bottom left

                          network and sharing centre

                          network or access thats being used

                          view status

                          properties

                          TCP/Pv4 maybe 6

                          properties

                          tick use the following IP address and enter 192.168.1.5

                          then on box

                          IP settings

                          change to 192.168.1.6 , save settings and reboot, and try that.

                            you could splash out and get a wireless kit for about ?50

                            router and wireless usb or PCi Card.

                            then you will have continuous connectivity so easier to keep box up to date and you then can use the advantage of all the Plugins addons.

                            and no wire trailing across the floor.
