    DM500 PLEASE HELP A NOOB

I AM TRYING TO SET UP MY 500C USING THE NOOBS GUIDE. I FLASHED THE IMAGE FINE USING DREAMUP AND A NULL MODEM CABLE. WHEN I TRY THE NEXT BIT WITH FLASHFXP AND A CROSSOVER ETHERNET CABLE (DIRECT TO MY PC) I CAN NOT GET IT TO CONNECT. I HAVE READ EVERYTHING I CAN FIND ON HERE AND TRIED MANY THINGS. I GET A VARIETY OF ERROR MESSAGES, THE CONNECTION IS EITHER LOST,TIMED OUT, OR REFUSED. IS IT A SETTING ON THE BOX? PLEASE HELP AS MY WIFE WANTS TO KILL ME!

Firstly, a bit of advise. Typing in capital letters (upper case) is considered to be shouting and may upset some people.

What IP address is you PC and what IP are you using for your DM?

Which FTP program are you using and have you tried any others?

        Hi,

Sorry about the shouting, I'll keep it down from now on.

The ip of my box is 192.168.0.24 my pc is 86.15.95.142. The image I flashed was the latest from the downloads section which seems to work fine.

I appreciate your replies and any help you can offer.

                    Hi,
I have just began to get further with my dreambox....

All i can say is for me.....

Use a wireless router directly connected to your dreambox and wirelesly connected to your pc/laptop.

reset/reboot your dreambox, router and laptop to correcly get your new ip addresses.
                    Then once all are connected, go to your dreambox and;
                    MENU>SETUP>EXPERT SETUP>COMMUNICATION SETUP
                    .....And note your Dreambox IP.

                    Open Flash XP,

Left hand colmn has your computer...right hand column is blank.

Click on the THUNDER icon in the right hand column (Quick connect or F8)

Type your dreambox ip (noted earlier in the Server or url)
                    Example 192.168.1.3
                    User name: root
                    password: dreambox.

                    Then click connrct...
If it works then cool and try next step to ftp to correct location.

                    Hope this helps

yeah that's a fair point but really with a crossover cable it should be just as simple......I'm sure if you google setting up crossover cable or something similar you will get in depth instructions and a idea where you may be going wrong.
