are we sure its a n3 card as in lots of post on the net it says its a rom 142 and in any site i have looked it says that a rom 142 is a nagra 2 card and not three also there is one of the patched receivers that has the fix for the n2 change as the first stage of n2 cards was rom 110 and that is open from what i have read

      nagra 2 roms 102 / 103 / rom s01 / s02 /rom 110 / rom 142 / rom 180 / rom 206
      nagra 3 roms 240 / 241

alunfennell can you give me a link to were you were reading about virgin looking at nds as there not that long out of court or did they sort it before it went the hole way cant see them going to nds as branson hates everything about sky and they are part of nds but then money can talk as we well know

What I am realy trying to point out is ... there not going to waist time and money playing around for the next year on Irish or British cable companys upgrading it to N3, this will be a reasonable fast process as there are much bigger cable company owned by UPC in other parts of Europe also rolling out the Nagra 3 encryption.

What I was wondering is are they just changing the cards or do they have to change a lot of boxes for them to accept N3..if it's the latter then that would surely cost them a fortune in the virgin areas..No

          cheers

all receivers only need a firmware update to handle the new cards

                  For the (rather stupid) laywoman:

                  Hi Irish (sky-) watchers,

Having lost nearly all my sky-channels as well, I have been trying to understand what you guys are saying.
Am I right that the N3-thing is a sort of lock that UPC has put on the channels in order not to decode them any more?
And am I further right that there is nothing to do about the loss for these channels (you see, I am a real hard core stupid) in the near future?
If that's the case, would you advice me to get back to the original UPC-Box again and throw my Eurovox box out of the window?

                  Thanks already in advance!

As for othere cable operators I do not know, but if Virgin join the party i would imaging the job will be finished before the winter sets in ! Virgin could be in talks with Sly who are interested in the cable market themselves so we could have NDS been also used on cable as well ...

                    im kinda confused myself

some people are saying the channels are gone to nagra 2 and some are saying its nagra 3

but if they are gone to nagra 3 how come there is a temp fix for the kryptview?

can someone clear this up guys?

                    cheers

                    alan

They have moved from Nagra 1 and are sitting in the Nagra 2 stream for now and will then migrate to Nagra 3. The Kryptview has the N2 keysets and as such the "missing" channels can be viewed for now.

For the hard core stupid (again):

What is a kryptview? Can a laywoman like me do something with it? And if so, what does she have to do with it and where can she get the thing?

Be honest: Would you advise me not to start with these technical things? Or won't it be as bad as I fear?

You cannot view it on the Kryptview that would make it too easy. They went to the bother of opening a card and supporting their box I cannot see them just handing the info over

A Kryptview is a DVB C box and closed source. But is the only box at the moment that has a temporary solution for the Ireland encryption change.

When it goes to Nagra 3 thats another story. My only advice that I could give at the moment would be to wait and see what happens.
