mcfc try clicking on link number 2 in my signature area and see what images/files are there for the dm500c ,that said they may not do you any good if you live in an area that has changed over to n3. nagra 3 is a new encryption system being brought in to use by the cable companies ,in essence it means all boxes will be useless sooner or later and no fix is available .the only possible exceptions are boxes with a lan port such as dreambox , for cable tv i would take a look at the kryptview a750 and the i connector if your in the uk and starview 6 if your in ireland . im sure you will find threads about these boxes on here .i love it when a dreambox comes together.

some images have bootloader 7.2 (bl72 ) and your box may need bootloader 7.5(bl75) if you flash the wrong image it may say (no ca or file to big) its not the image at fault its just the bootloader. so if your box is bl75 get an image that also has bl75 and all should be ok.i love it when a dreambox comes together.

the cables you need depend on the type of computer you have ,if you have an older desktop computer with an rs232 socket (this is the same as on the rear of the box ) then all you need is a null modem cable .but if you have a new type desktop or laptop that has no rs232 socket you will need a combination of the null modem cable and the usb to serial cable adaptor that you have .another consideration is if your computer runs on windows xp or windows vista ,xp is best as vista has severe compatability issues . the compatability issue will arise when you try to use your combination of usb to serial and null modem cables on a vista computer ,the adaptor needs a driver (a bit of software that will come on a disk or that you download ) you should have no problem on an xp computer. you may be lucky enough to find a driver that works ,in over 2 years i have not found one that works ,so i use a combination of an acer laptop for downloading ,and editing and an older dell desktop that runs on xp for flashing all boxes ,the dell pc cost just €60 and is excellent .i love it when a dreambox comes together.
