    hard drive connected or not while flashing

    on pvr dreamboxes does it matter if hard drive is connected or not while flashing

    hmm good question,,, I have not had to flash mine since i installed the hard disk so its always been done without it, what issues are you getting?

      need to reflash to newer img to watch and rec at same time, so i was wonderin do i disconnect and risk having to format it and loose recorded stuff or leave it connected and hope it works

        can you not copy/backup you recordings to a NAS or PC just in case... surely the images record in the same .ts format.. If the data on the hdd gets dicked you could then transfer it back once the drive is reformatted..

        Have you got a spare HDD you could try borth scenarios with?

        Somebody on here must have been through this and will give a definative answer either way soon....

          yea i can sort out backin up the hd no prob
          just want to be sure i wont ~~~~ up anythin by leavin hd in
          as ive never heard anyone advise do or dont on this one

            You can flash your dreambox with the hdd installed no problem. Backup your data first though.

              thanks guys got it sorted, but another quick one
              ive noticed that if i remove power to box and plug in again
              the libcamdio file and and a few others disapear would changing the attributes stop this from happenin

                Now M8 never pull the power on a 600 the hard drive might still be spinning. Allways reboot using the option in the menu. it will say "it's now safe to power off" but listen untill you here the hard drive stop spinning. That way the box will remember its settings.
